Insoles for boots

I'm also a big fan of the Green or the Orange Superfeet insoles and have tried many others. I credit Superfeet for helping me get over plantar fasciitis years ago. The only insoles I have tried that I like better than those are the Meindl Perfekt cork insoles available from Cabelas, but they aren't as adaptable to fit other boots as Superfeet are. Cabelas claims they don't even fit all the Meindl boots other than the Perfekt series but after being spoiled by them I ordered some insoles that I have successfully used in a 2 other Meindl boots (Alaska Hunters & Denali) and a pair of Lowa's. I ordered a full size smaller as suggested in a Cabelas review and that worked well.

These are what I would use, they take a little time to break in and get used to them. Can't just wear them all day every day, the bones of your foot need time to get accustomed to the support. They sell different support levels. I'd go to a athletic shoe store and talk to someone about which ones are right for you.

I don't remember the medical term but I had a cyst on the sole of my foot and I also have a hammer toe caused by bunions. The podiatrist had me buy a pair of sorbothane inserts and then had me cut holes so the cyst was in the center of one hole and the base of the hammer toe was centered in the other hole. I have been wearing the inserts for about 6 months now and cannot see any wear in them yet and there is no crumbling or breaking down around the holes I cut in the insoles. I have bought a lot of different brand of insoles over the years but none have been as comfortable as the sorbothane insoles. I have flat feet and can't stand any insert that has a pronounced arch but the sorbothane insoles are almost flat and work well for me. I bought them in a runner's store so they are designed for the pounding of running. Years ago when I was running some, Runner's Magazine recommended sorbothane insoles but I never bought any the podiatrist recommended them. I would recommend you try some if you can find them. I don't remember what I paid for them but it was less than $30, maybe closer to $20.

I weigh about 240, have bunions on both feet, and generally wear holes under my big toes in the original insoles pretty quickly. The sorbothane insoles seem to be wearing longer than any others but I was buying buying gel padded inserts at Wal-Mart and they did a good job of cushioning, they didn't last long. I would encourage you to at least try the sorbothane inserts. They might work for you and they are a lot cheaper than custom orthotics.
