Is eating right worth it??

I've watched too many people die slow deaths from heart disease and diabetes. Last Thanksgiving I was diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol. Since then, I have lost 55 pounds, got my sugar under control, and cut my cholesterol in half. I feel much better. I still have some weight to take off, but it is gradually getting there.
Is it worth it? It is to me.

I think you just need to put numbers to it. Yes some people have long lives despite bad habits but the numbers on the side of those with good habits. Others die young despite really good diets and exercise. There aren't any guarantees to an individual. But it's easy to measure the differences in society overall. The numbers say good eating improves health and longevity on average and I don't think anybody can produce figures to the contrary.
