Is Every Cold Steel On Amazon Fake?

They have some major, major markdowns compared to the Cold Steel website. Sometimes up to 50%. I didn't know there was such a market for counterfeit knives but apparently they're rampant on Amazon. Has anyone ended up with a fake Cold Steel, or any other knife? I see Spydercos are popularly counterfeited as well. I'd like to think maybe costs have gone down and they're all legit but could be wishful thinking.

Not everyone is dealing with a full deck of cards. There are actually some who collect fakes! Go figure!

Lots of the seller's on amazon are legit, I believe midway sells there as well.

I doubt a significant number of CS knives sold by the bookstore are counterfeits.

I've never purchased a counterfeit Cold Steel product, nor have I even seen one in real life.

Of course I've seen a few knockoffs, but those were not the same since they were not labeled as CS and were not passed off as CS.

I've purchased numerous products from that site and have rarely had any problems.

One new issue (within the last few years) is that they now automatically link to sellers when in the past you had to click on sellers, so now scammers from China will show up as the default. I learned this a couple years ago when I bought an anime figure for my niece. Her birthday came several weeks after I ordered it and it still did not show up and then suddenly all these negative reviews showed up for the seller (which I thought was Amazon when I made the purchase) and the seller was ignoring inquiries. I was able to get a refund from Amazon but now I make sure sellers are not in China.

For realistic prices to compare knives to ignore the inflated MRSP on their websites and look at what reputable online retailers sell them for.

Scammers can also sell at normal prices, as some of those scamming with fake anime figures like I mentioned in my previous post, and by fake I mean they don't have any product at all and just take money.

I've also seen reputable dealers selling CS products (during sales) for less than the bookstore sells them for.

That $36.00 DF Bowie I bought during a sale was much less than the $60.00 DF Bowie I bought from the bookstore, and the $160.00 Warrior O-Tanto was much less than I've ever seen from the bookstore.

I'm just shocked the AD10 is half off and it says on the CS website that "if the price is too good to be true, it probably is."

I don't use Amazon only eBay and certainly not all are fake, I would say it's a small percentage. Some great sellers at great prices. I have been using some sellers for years on there....

Some simple rules are...
Look at what else these people sell...
How long have they been selling....
Where are they based...
What's the returns/refund policy ect....

And the main rule is... Caveat emptor ;)

I have ordered quite a few off amazon and have not got a fake one yet.

Cold Steel is made in the place people go to make things cheaper. Fakes are typically imitations of more expensive things made in the US. The profit margin wouldn’t be adequate for making something in China that’s already made in Taiwan or China, especially knives as inexpensive as Cold Steel.

Plenty of fakes of Taiwan-made Cold Steels out there...just check the "Counterfeit, anyone?" thread.

Those aren’t fakes of existing knives. They look like cheap garbage knives using the Cold Steel logo. Not the same thing as cloning CS knives. My comment is about the profitability surrounding cloning knives in the same country they’re already made, not designing an entirely new knife and putting someone else's name on it.

Yes there are those too, but plenty of actual clones if you take a little more time to look. AD10s, AD15s, Broken Skulls, Spartans, 4Max Scouts, etc.

As Benjamin Liu said, don't look to compare prices with Cold Steel's website. Those are the highest prices online. Buy from other reputable online dealers/sellers/stores.

I think the big drops on Amazon are due to Midway's sales right now. For awhile there, Amazon was significantly higher on somethings than many online dealers. While they won't match prices anymore, you can tell them if they are getting beaten on price by other retailers, I net something like that has happened.

I also wonder if GSM is/was stuck with inventory that they have to move and cut some retailers heavy breaks.

Never got a fake from Amazon. I've made at least 20 knife purchases from them (most are CS knives). They just have really good deals sometimes.

I have bought several knives from Amazon. Including 4 Cold Steel knives. None of them are counterfeit. "Is Every Cold Steel On Amazon Fake?" Of course not.

I was just basing it off the cold steel site saying "if the price is too good to be true, it probably is." I didn't know the CS site had the highest mark ups on the items
