Found a blade I like in that steel. More than likely going to order it. Never used or handled it. Unless talk say it's a dud I might just get it.

Sure. Its a "Super Steel." Its a meaningless marketing term with no real definition, so why not?

Run along, you've proven multiple times you have no clue what you post. You can't even answer my question. I don't need scat being spread on my question. Go lick an electric fence, you'll be more productive.

I don't think it falls into "todays" catagory of super steels but from what Ive heard, read but never expierenced it is a good steel. Should be better than average

I wouldn't call it a super steel personally (although, I have 0 personal experience with it, so keep that in mind).

From the sounds of it it's pretty similar to a 440c, 154cm, or vg10. So its a solid steel, just not sure it would gain the somewhat arbitrary term "super" anymore.

But if you like the blade, go for it :).

It is similar to VG-10, if you think VG-10 is a super steel then N690CO would fit in the super steel class

Is it what is called a "Super Steel" around here? That is your question, I answered it. Anything is.

Have I used it? You haven't asked.

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks its a meaningless term with no real definition.

Going to try this again. What's anyone's experience with N690CO steel. Seen a blade I like in it but never used it. Comparisons to regular steels, even opinions.

Hopefully the trolls stay out of this one. I'm not talking to that re re.

I had an Extrema Ratio RAO with this steel and it was tougher than all my blades at that time. Depends on the grind, blade thickness, ht...you get what I mean...as to what your intentions are for the knife you're scouting.

If these abrasive posts continue to derail topics, people are going to find themselves registering on other venues, that is if they haven't gotten booted from there too. Which at this point, would not surprise me in the least.

I'm no expert, but understood the term "super steel" to refer to steels utilizing the powdered metallurgy process, as opposed to ingot steel...no? So I guess by that definition N690CO is not a SS.

I would rather consider super steel a moving definition, that is a stepped upgrade from conventional performing steels. I don't think you can count it. You would need performance I the range of better than Elmax or s35v in multiple categories, toughness, edge retention for regular knife nutters to think of it as a super steel.

This post makes the most sense.

I have a blade in this steel and i love it. Easy to sharpen. Gets a true mirror edge. Stays sharp. Fine grain structure. I like it better than my blurs s30v for a number of reasons. I have heard it compared to vg10 but i think the cobalt makes a big difference. It has a lot more cobalt than vg10. My two cents.

Just bought a $500 custom that utilizes this steel (first knife I've owned with it) and it has been my edc since the day it arrived. I like it and I'll say it's a step up from 154cm and VG-10.

I don't consider any steel to be "super". Make a phone call to Crucible and ask about their selection of "super steel", you'll probably get laughed at.

Anyways, I've used N690 from a production and custom heat-treat standpoint. The production versions I've tried have chipped along the edge very easily (ie. cutting wood). However, the customs in N690 I have are great performers at the same task (ie. cutting wood). The customs have never chipped on me, and they exhibit moderately good edge retention.

It seems like N690 needs to be understood by the maker, or it will be a very poor knife steel. This has been my experience, and others may not feel the same way. Take it for what it is...

Maybe at some point you're realize it's not what you say but how you say it. You were baited and swallowed the hook. We have an ignore function, think about using it.
