My wife cuts me off quite often, but not from knives ;)

Although I'm not quite married yet, my girlfriend and I share alot of our finances. I'm with the your money, her money, our money theory. So far it's worked. The other thing is that I usually buy within my budget for the month. If I don't I'll work my ass off and get some overtime to pay for it. I feel bad for you guys who have to go behind your significant others backs to buy your knives. :(
Good luck,
Matt

ROFL........ You say that in the mirror :), then when your wife walks in the room and asks about all the yelling you say. " Dear I was a good husand this week can I buy a new toy?" Wife- "No and by the way time to take out the garbage and walk the dog".Husband- "yes dear"( in husbands mind)- damnit shes LUUCKY I didnt say something,
maybe one day I will! :D

I have 4 knives:

1 multi-tool
1 folding knife
1 fixed blade
1 machete

Honestly, I don't think I could ever find a use that I couldn't already handle with what I have. I can sorta understand collecting knives for the sake of being a collector. But man, knives are a bit more expensive than comic books and I don't think they're that great of an investment.

Just my 1.5 cents,

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

IMHO, the way to go is to buy HER something(s) to keep her from focusing on just how many toys YOU have...

Works for me. YMMV.

This one gets my vote. ;) :)

I have lots of problems;) But none with the Mrs. We each get X amount of dollars out of each check to spend on whatever we please. She can get whatever. I can get whatever. We don't dip into the grocery money, we wait for another couple of paychecks. No conflicts.

Never ever had a problem with my ex. She was understanding and actully added a significant amount to my collection. I'm not naturally inclined to overspending so when buying a knife she knew it was always well within my budget.

What's all this whimpering & fear of the little ladies!!I have a hard time believing all you men are afaid of your wives! Why do you have to tell them anything, unless you want to! JUST DO IT & lordy quit being wimps!!:D Ahhh!No I'm not married, yes I have knives!!!What do I tell the ladies about my knives?? NOTHING,all my knives are in a speial hiding place & I makes sure to carry the smallest knife I can if she needs something cut!! NO !! it's not a pinK SAK! HEE!
jim :D

tuhkis is right on. I got my knife yesterday and my wife saw it before I even got it out of the box. She said what's that. I said......uhmmm........this is your new knife. I have so many and you don't have any so this one is for you. I actually felt my heart break, but she was really excited. She was so happy that she let me order one for myself. (I've been talking about the BM 555S for months)
So I think that's the secret. Get your significant other into the hobby and get them motivated to purchase a knife (you can steal it later). Being in it together is better than keeping secrets.

Then why even come to this forum? I mean, how long can you talk about those four edged tools?

I too have a limited set of knives that I want, based on function (as well as a couple with historical/ethnographic significance).

The fun, for me, is in upgrading these blades so that you have the BEST multi-tool, folder, fixed blade hunter, fixed blade fighter, machete...
