Getting ready for another youth basketball season for our league and my club, there's equipment to go through including getting rid of old worn, leaky basketballs and those that have been abused by kids taking them outside. It's much easier to deflate them before filling a contractor bag and skewering them with a sharp blade makes getting the air out much easier.
The only issue is the composite balls leave thick, red gunk all over the knife, so I'll avoid using an expensive blade and use something like my trusty combo-edged RAT which opens those poor dead balls up with ease.
