Jute twine strength

We use Jute to tie the intersections of willow on our Sweatlodge. It's more than strong enough for shelter construction, but I always double and twist for suspending a tarp, or other wind/sun block, because of the added stresses.

Thanks guys, I'm always going to carry a good length of paracord but it's a pain to get and expensive for general use so jute seems like the ticket.

Doc,

Sign me up for one of your bags! What tin do you use for that? How long does it take you to make them? Seriously, make them and sell them and put me down for number one on your list.

I saw your PSK a couple of weeks ago and was telling my wife about it and how I needed to learn to crochet and knit, because those could be handy skills. She looked at me out of the corner of her eyes a little oddly, but that's nothing new.

PM me if you're interested Doc, because I certainly am.

I don;t mean to sound cras or disrespectful, but really what is the point? I mean, how much more expensive is paracord compared to the gains?

Thanks kage. The tin I use is an empty hand cream tin that my wife gives me, although it can be made for any size tin. I, personally, like very small kits.

As far as learning to crochet, crocheting is a very efficient use of fibre and is versatile beyond description. I originally learned how so I could create patterns in my sling pockets, and it sorta went from there............... Women like us to think it's a 'chick' skill so they can keep it for themselves. Fight back, I say!

I can't tell you how long it takes to make them as I have no concept of time (or distance) :o . Then again, when you're doing something you like, time has no meaning. :D

As far as making them and selling them, it's not in the works, at the moment, anyway.

BTW, since the post on the PSK, I have changed the pouch slightly so with a couple of small movements, the entire pouch can be unraveled to one continuous length of jute for survival applications. Note: this jute is smaller in diameter, than the usual size.

Doc

My apologies for the hijack. Doc, you should consider doing a tutorial on how you make the pouches.
