Howdy, my first post here. I just ordered a KA-BAR BKR7-BRK Combat Utility knife from Amazon. I thought I was buying a BK7. I guess I got caught in the fog of online shopping. What is the difference between a Ka-Bar BK7 vs KA-BAR BKR7-BRK Combat Utility Knife? Country of Origin? Price? Same knife? I thought I was buying a knife made in the USA, but I just noticed on the description it says USA or Imported?? What does that mean..they don't know and neither will I?
The "answered questions" about the sheath are old and mixed up/conflicting too. I will find out what sheath I am getting, But I am curious as to what knife I am getting? Any info would be appreciated. I also ordered a BK9, I might send one back. Again got caught up in the frenzy..lol. I started out wanting a BK22.. Somehow ended up ordering two different ones. Guitars and knives. I have it bad. Thanks....

It appears to be a BK7 but amazon (or the seller) titled the knife in a strange way.

Well I guess that's good. Confusing to my old brain. Amazon prime has it's perks, but it can be a mess too. Thanks for the reply. I feel better now. I have no clue why I ordered two knives. I blame it on youtube and one guy especially on youtube..lol Not sure I will keep them both. I can return easily. That is one perk with buying from Amazon. I have never held one of these, I hope I like them. Or one of them at least..lol. Thanks again.

They (seller) were probably trying to catch every iteration that someone might search for.
Ka-Bar Becker knives are made in the USA. Included nylon sheaths, not so much.

I see. Thanks.. For some reason in my haste I thought I might be getting a nylon sheath like the one that comes with the BK22. It looks to be a sturdier sheath. But the picture shows a pretty crappy, limp looking sheath. But I hope to find a nice looking leather sheath for it. I am not a huge fan of Kydex. I may never carry the knife. It might stay n my pickup or gear bag. But I am old, and I like leather. I am humoring myself..lol. So far what I find are too expensive for me. And the wait times are too much for my heart. I might die waiting for a custom sheath..lol

I should clarify, I didn’t mean that in regard to a financial investment. My comment was about the BK line being a really quality product.

Ha! Yeah I knew what you meant. I have a house full of Electric Guitar "Investments"..lol. Only a couple are worth anything if I were to sell them. By nature I don't sell them anyway. I hope I don't end up with a house full of Beckers. No room.. lol

Well I got both of the knives today. First impression?? Well my hands are big..lol. I use every bit of the handles. I thought they might be bigger, but I like the grip okay. One of the reasons I bought these was the grip shape. I ordered the wrong color TKC handle for one of them. I see some nice wood handles on ebay with great reviews. I like wood and leather. I might buy one of the wood handles for the 7. THey might be as slick as the stock grip but they look nice.
Since I have both knives I will probably fail to send the BK9 back. It's not all that big, but the BK7 is more in line with something I might carry. I have a nice machete or two, some old vintage well taken care of hatchets, axes etc etc.
BUT!! I have the fever! With guitars it is called GAS. With my motorcycle, and my 18 year old Motorcycle forum it's called Crowitis. I see some here have used the term Beckerheads. I aint there yet, but if I don't back off I will be. I want to get a nice looking leather sheath for the 7. I might leave the BK9 in the "not so bad" nylon sheath for a while. I may never use it. I might give it away to my Cousin.
That coating has got to go! I won't use it enough to wear it off any time soon. I kind of dread the stripping process but it's doable. I don't want shiny, but I don't want rhino skin either. I bought these on a whim... Dangerous and I can't afford it..lol.. Fever I tell'ya.

Crow, the stripping process is painless.

First, go to a big box store and get a can of that aerosol paint stripper. Then get an aluminum roasting pan at the dollar store.

2nd, take the handle scales off and mask off the area under the scales (use that blue painters tape), temporarily replace the handles, remove the tape from the areas OUTSIDE the handles, and then remove the handles again.

3rd - Go outside and spray the paint stripper all over the coated areas of the blade and put it in the aluminum pan (I balance the handle on the edge of the pan) and let the stripper sit for 15 to 20 minutes. The cooler the weather the longer you need to wait. If you are way up north, you may need to do this in the garage, just make sure the door to the house is closed and air out the garage after you're done.

4th - scrape the coating off with a window putty spatula, screw driver, knife, etc and the wash the blade with warm soap and water. Discard the waste products in accordance with local environmental regulations (legal disclaimer here :D)

You should end up with a stripped blade that has a nice, grey to dark grey patina. You can get 8 or 9 (maybe more) BK9s out of a single can.

Never used the aerosol, but the spread-on paint stripper works well and quickly. The proposedly more environmentally-friendly citrus stuff needs to sit a lot longer. On the order of hours. But still works well enough.

I agree on the wood and leather.
If the ebay guy is TommyTheWho or tmil2009, don't hesitate.
He did the wood for the 9.
I did the rest - Except the 62. It comes with Walnut. ;)

You can't tell cause they're sheathed, but the 7 and 16 (and a slew of 'em not in the pics) have been stripped.

Thanks for the tips. Not sure if I will leave the black on the handle or not. Not much rust out here in the desert. Painters tape will withstand the chemical? I have been watching vids on youtube. The worst part seems to be getting rid of it afterwards, (I will dig a hole and bury the mess) and keeping it off the skin. One guy used a gel that seemed less dangerous to the air. I will have to wait until I get near a town to buy something. No stores around here. I might need to file it a bit on top so I can use a fire steel with it. I thought they had a sharper corner on the spine. Neither one is very sharp bit I don't think I want them very sharp. I have smaller knives with nice edges.
Glad I bought them tho. :-) I have a few old butcher knives bigger than the 9. It's smaller than I pictured in my mind. Not too huge at all. I might get a BK22 down the road for tearing up metal and such..lol.

This is what I use...it's cheap, there is Alot of it and it smells nice, supposedly safer too

Those look real nice. I am gonna get one of the wood handles. I thinkmaybe tmil2009 has a new ebay personality, someone selling the same items with the same description/ wording, prices and from the same town. I could be wrong.. His ebay handle is amwest99. Weird, they look like the same person? If Tommy is a member here maybe he will advise.. They look great.

Pretty sure that's him, too. I couldn't remember his third virtual persona. He used to be on here quite a bit, but think it's tapered off since his eBay site took off.

Yeah it looks like the same person. I am gonna grab one for sure. Wish I had gotten one instead of ordering the TKC handle. Plus I ordered the wrong color when I ordered it. I am sure they are very nice handles, might last forever. I spent a long time dinkin' around in their ESEE knife builder. I was going to get a ESEE from them. Not sure how I ordered the wrong handle. I hate to spend money sending it back. My fault I bought it. I do prefer wood.

I do like the TKC handles - have a tweener set on the FFG 16. Still have factory grip on the 4 and backup 5... Which wrong color did you get?
(Or did you accidentally get an ESEE scale?)
