Keep getting logged out

I've been mostly away from the forums since the beginning of the year. Haven't logged in since then anyway. Seems like the server issue is fixed, that's great news!

However...

Both last night and this evening I keep getting logged out. This has never happened before. I AM using the https version of the forums. Everytime I go to a new page, click my alerts, or even try to edit a post, I get logged out. Sometimes I can't even type a post and submit it before I'm, logged out again. Any ideas?

I will concede that I am using an older iPad right now, that is unfortunately stuck on an old version of Safari due to an old version of iOS that cannot be updated further, but that's out of my control. I've never had this problem before on this device, and it's my preferred BF posting device. Hopefully there's a fix (that's not buying a new device, lmao), this sucks. :(

ETA - Oh yeah; yes, I have indeed cleared cookies, and rebooted the iPad. Several times, in fact. I'm actively looking for a fix myself too, this is extremely annoying!

I know it sounds basic, but when you log in do you click the “keep me logged in” box?

Sometimes when I have the password for a website saved on my phone it will log me in automatically, so the box doesn’t get clicked and I end up logged out sooner then I would like.

I read in a similar thread that if you don't have an s at the end of your http then it will log you out between pages. If you're bookmark is http:// change it to be https://

(I was gonna say put an S between your P and your Colon but that doesnt sound right does it)

Redmeadow Knives Redmeadow Knives I think you just solved the mystery of why I appear logged out whenever I navigate to BF from a new tab or another site; at least when using my phone, https is not the default prefix, http is. Looking to see if I can change that in settings.

Thanks guys. It's getting extremely maddening. Every time I perform an "action" (posting, looking at alerts, trying to edit a post, etc.), I get logged off. This all when clicking on buttons on the page, when I'm already logged in.

Yep, I'm checking that box every time. One of the first things I thought was maybe the issue.

Nope, I wish it was so easy John, but thanks for the note. As noted in my OP, I am logging in on a secured url (https). I have also been checking the addresses for the "buttons" I'm clicking, and they're secure http (https) also.

It IS almost like it's not saving my cookie to keep me logged in, but I see it in my file history. Weird.

Check the “www”. If it’s not in the address bar on the page where you log in, the software will think you aren’t when clicking an internal link.

Thanks. That's not it either. All of my bookmarked links start with https://www.bladeforums.... anything else I'm clicking are buttons on the page that I'm logged into, and I'm not seeing anything wrong with those either.

The logging off when going to a link/page seems fairly random. However, it happens EVERY time I make a post, check my notifications, or edit a post. Starting to wonder if it has something to do with those pop-ups that happen when those actions are performed.

ETA - Yep, that seems like it might be part of the issue. Anytime that little status bar pops up in the top right corner when an "action" is performed, I get kicked off. Hmm...

ETA2 - A picture of this "status" bar...

Ah, that pretty much exhausts my guesses for an actual solution then. Can you still access the App Store? If so, the big browsers probably won’t let you download, but something like Dolphin or even Opera might still be compatible?

Also might try ticking “request desktop site” in the address bar dropdown menu. When folks were having issues with things not loading on the mobile view a while back that tended to fix it. Worth a shot anyway.

ETA: ^ Then again I just tried switching to desktop view in Safari myself and it pretty much ignored me, so maybe not.

Yeah, I can still access the App Store. Trying a different browser than Safari might not be a bad idea. I'll take a look and see what's available to download for iOS 10.3.4.

I had forgotten about the "request desktop site" fix from awhile back. It only sometimes helped my issues, but it was mainly when almost all avatars and photos on a page stopped loading. I did try that earlier this evening, and it didn't seem to make any difference.

This decidedly seems to be related to cookies, and apparently it's getting lost or corrupted somehow whenever I perform an "action". Strange (and annoying) indeed.

In your screenshot where you’re logged out I see the “Paid subscribers don’t see ads” bit, but no ads. Do you have a content (ad) blocker installed? If so, maybe try turning that off in Settings and see if that does anything (and double check that the block cookies switch hasn’t been accidentally ticked while you’re in there)?

Also try turning off “prevent cross-site tracking” if that’s an option on your version.

I took that screenshot after I'd been logged out again, just to show that "status bar" I was talking about. I actually block a lot of the ad servers at the router level, so many won't show up on any device on my network, but I don't have an ad blocker installed on this iPad.

I do, however, have the "Do Not Track" option turned on in Safari, I'll turn that off while browsing here and see if it makes any difference. It was never an issue in the past, so clearly something has changed in the past few months. It's a good idea though, thanks!

ETA - I'm not blocking cookies either, I did check that once I thought this might be a cookie issue.

Darn. Turning off "Do Not Track" didn't work. Bummer, that would have been too easy. :(

ETA - Ugh. Neither did changing the cookies setting to accept all, or turning off Safari's built-in pop-up blocker. Gaahh...

"Private" browsing doesn't seem to make a difference either. IDK. Weird. Guess I'll have to try another browser here soon.

It’s probably your IPad. I have had several since their release and eventually they start having glitches and issues running certain apps and sites.

No doubt that part of the problem is the old iPad (I conceded that point in my OP). It's not a "glitch" per se though, as it's quite repeatable, it's that something here on BF has changed recently which is causing the issue. I'm not having any issues with any other site I visit and log into.

I also concede that there may be nothing that can be done to fix it. :(

Seems that turning off "Do Not Track" at least stopped the random kick when navigating between pages. That's somewhat helpful. But still get logged off with every post, edit, or checking of alerts. Argh.

Will be looking at a new browser for this POS tomorrow. Not in the mood for that this evening.

Well, not thrilled with the other browser options. I'd probably eventually get used to them, but... meh.

I have, however, figured out a bit of a workaround on Safari.

If I don't enter my post in the reply box at the bottom of the page for a given thread, and instead, click the "More Options..." button, I can enter my post on the new page. Once I hit "Reply" there, it takes me back to the thread and doesn't log me off in the process.

Similarly, if I need to edit something, I don't do it in the pop-up. Clicking "More Options..." there and completing the edit on the following page works also.

Now I just need to adjust my habits and remember to click "More Options..." each time.
