Keep it Alive in 2025

Sorry you got screwed on the quality of your two knives. My two were fine and I am grateful for that. The definitions aren't up to my wishes, they come from dictionary's. OH
Thanks, OH. It never occurred to me that "egregious" could also have the opposite meaning. It looks like I will have to search my vocabulary next time. Just for fun, it appears Word Hippo didn't pick up on it either.
Good hunting.

The No.6!! Love the Padouk wood!!🤗
John 😁
Good choice!

I'm trying to decide between these two.

08 Gardening knife. pros: I like the blade shape and comfortable handle.
cons: I've had it for years.

06 Carbone. pros: It's an older model, but I bought it this year, so maybe that's more in the spirit of a forum knife. Also, it's more pocket friendly.
cons: It's not the Gardening Knife.

Perhaps we should do a poll? 😂🤣o_O

I'm not a member of the "GEC or nothing" club and would be open to other options but I find it hard to wrap my head around how a single-blade GEC with simple, but exclusive to the club for that run, wood or micarta at a price of $125 - $150 seems so difficult to accomplish. Another, smaller, less mighty, and less popular, online knife forum seems to pull it off with boring regularity.

I've never tried my hand at organizing something like this and my ignorance is probably showing, but I can't help but think about the amazing feats of logistics and engineering that have been accomplished on time and under budget by relatively small groups of dedicated people throughout history.

The idea of everyone buying their own knife and having it engraved with whatever they want is an option that has pretty much always been available. The fact that it doesn't really seem to happen in practice says something. I'm not sure what, but something. Along those lines, it seems like nothing would stop anybody from purchasing a whole set of Opinels, no. 1 - 12, and having them engraved with month and year!! January 2025 BF forum knife, February 2025 BF forum knife - see where I'm going? It could be like those underwear that were popular when I was a kid; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - important to keep track of that sort of thing...

No ill intent by what I'm about to say, and yes, I know what road is paved with good intentions. I probably missed 5 threads about this but..... Why are there so many left overs? Did the people who signed up decide not to buy one? In years past, I thought they were pre-paid for and then a handful of extras (20 or so) were made for the few members who missed it.

160 knives is a heck of a lot of leftovers! Maybe they could be re-cycled and come with a 2025 stencil, a small bottle of PCB etching fluid and a small bottle of dye.
For me it was cost. I don't mind paying $120 to $150 for a GEC, but $250 was (and still is) too rich for my taste, so that's why I passed but not sure about other's motives.

I too am wondering about the smaller runs and why ours had to be 500? was it 500? Which is more than twice the number required.
The ONLY good thing about the vast number of leftovers is that it kind of defeats the flippers....Spark will likely take a while to sell them but they will move. They are massively good quality knives.
Still its a lot of capital to be tied up indefinitely.

Do you know how many were made in 2022 and 2023? If those runs were close to 500 as well, maybe sales were better at half the price.

There were Forum knives a long time ago that took a year or two to sell out. Of course, that's a lot easier to take when the totals were 120 knives at $60 each.

I think it says that there's always been a forum knife before, so nobody ever thought of everybody making their own.

I guess I won't go here.

I made some test messes on a knife out of my farm toolbox, and I don't want to mess up my new Opinel garden knife, so I'll just remember how and why I got it for my '25 forum knife.

Also from memory, but I think 2023 was $160.

No offense to anyone, but with price jumps like that, I will probably never buy another forum knife. I can see why there are so many leftovers this time.
