knife in airborne school?

Airborne, airborne where you been......
Down in Columbus drinking gin.....
What ya gonna do when you get back.....
Puke your guts on the airborne track.....

I went thru airborne and air assault in 1992. No knives allowed then either. Have fun good schools good training.

I never found Airborne School to be all that difficult. The running wasn't all that far or fast and I don't remember any major rucks so I wouldn't worry about that school. As for selection, as noted the rucking is huge, land nav is a wonderful thing to be up on.

After Airborne I used a SOG Seal Pup, it served me well, I wasn't worry about damaging it or losing it. Make sure you have a good retention system for it if you plan to jump with a knife (after school). I always found a rope/seat belt cutter nice to have for quick access in an emergency, luckily I never had to use it but it was nice knowing it was there.

Remember that ALL of the selection/qualfication courses for special ops are really just an extended mindfuck until they get the class down to the number of people that they feel comfortable actually training. Well, except for Ranger school where they only have a limited amount of time and therefore have to fuck with you up right up until graduation.:D Sometimes they end up with fewer than they intended, but such is life. Just get yourself physically ready and when you get to Bragg, be ready for ANYTHING. This can probably range from the standard Ranger school sleep and food deprivation to the old "end of cycle exercise" tricks like having you march/run with a ruck for 50 or so miles and when you get within 20 feet of the truck, it drives another 10 miles down the road to the old ambush patrol trick where you haven't eaten for a day or two and the boxes of rations that you took from the ambushed truck and then humped several clicks through the woods to your rally point contain only sand or garbage. I have heard of at least a couple of guys wandering off in the woods babbling and crying like a 2 year old after that last trick. I hear tell that the SF guys are notorious for not telling you what the standards are for particular excercise like land navigation and then leaving you to wonder whether you have flunked out.

It's all designed to blow your comfort zone all to hell.....make you quit NOW,instead of later
when lives and the mission count on you keeping your head straight...!

Reward yourself when you graduate. Buy something nice. Like an Ontario Ranger Tactical RTB fixed blade, #OKC9450.
