I was wondering if any of you could give me some recommendations for some knife dealers/stores local to me either in Los Angeles or Orange County. I'm mainly looking for a good selection of folding knives from either Benchmade, SOG or Cold Steel. Thanks for the interest!

I haven't been to this place in a few years, but from what I remember they had a really good selection.

ross cutlery, which i hear is 'the best' for knife sharpening, carries some decent knives from what their website says. they are in LA.

Advanced Cutlery, one in Cerritos, one in Santa Anita

My last three benchmades were from them, decent pricing, nice store, good people, no problems.

Advance Cutlery, Arcadia, CA (in the Westfield Santa Anita Mall). (626) 445-6066. Good store, good products, good people. They also have a store in the Cerritos Mall.

I've been to Ross Cutlery and Recon-1. Both have pretty good inventory.

There is also Advance Cutlery which is in a few malls in Southern California; Arcadia, Lakewood, and Cerritos I believe. They are not as big as Ross or Recon.

Ross Cutlery is good. Also Martin B Retting in Culver City has a nice selection of production and custom knives. For that matter every Turner's Outdoorsman I've been in has a decent selection of production knives.

Agreed. If Plaza Cutlery isn't the premier knife retailer in Southern California, they're on the short list.

If you ever get to San Diego County, there's a brand new store in Solana Beach, The Cargo Company. The proprietor, Jeff, had a store up in Oregon and moved it recently when his wife took a job at San Diego State University. It's in the "Cedros Design District" (415 South Cedros, 858-794-7379) so there's lots of other stores around to occupy a wife or girlfriend if you're bringing one.

There is a Spyderco BG-42 carbon fiber Military Model in there that I've got my eye on--it was marked at $280 but he offered it me at $239. I still can't afford it, but if it's still there a month from now I'll be back for it.

ross cutlery is one of the best shops in the biz IMHO, also, best sharpeners ive ever had, recon 1 has a good inventory as well, but dont sharpen. im actually taking some of my knives to ross later this week for a tune up, after the edge those guys put on my minigriptillian, im never goin anywhere else

Cheers!

I go to San Diego quite a bit, but I usually take the inland route (SR-15) to visit my mom in Rancho Bernardo. I don't get to the coast very often. Maybe I'll take a trip over on my next visit.

Good luck with the Spyderco.

Larry's Shaver Shop in Santa Monica is a nice little family run shop with a decent knife selection. Retting is one of our few remaining gun shops, they always have some interesting historic or custom arms in stock and a good selection of folders. Ross Cutlery in LA is OK, but parking is not easy and will cost. Plaza really is the best for in-stock customs as well as production models

Honestly, if I thought I had the $239 for it I definitely would not have said anything about it here. I'm just a little delusional that I might be able to come with the cash for it.

I think I'd actually prefer one of the Buck or SOG BG-42 items, but they're getting difficult to find. As much I'd like the Spyderco, I really like to actually use some BG-42 to see how it performs. I think the Spyderco would be too nice to actually use. In a perfect world (one where I have lots of money) I'd get two of them--a user and one for the safe. :)

Advance Cutlery charges you full MSRP on all knives....that is why most of them have closed. Why would anyone pay $85 +tax for a Benchmade 550HG when you can get it for around $68 with shipping off the internet.

Plaza Cutlery is the place to go for your knife needs, both production and custom.

Because I can't touch a knife on the internet, I don't always like to buy sight unseen, unless its a blade I already know and have used or handled. And to be honest they are right down the road from me, less than 10 minutes.

Thats worth $20, as in the example given. I think alot of business's are suffering because of internet competition, not just Advanced Cutlery, since they are relatively small and definitely local I would go so far to say any business that fits that description would have to be feeling the pintch of internet competition, when they themselves don't use the internet for sales as well as maintain a store. But to simply say their sale prices are hurting them would be too narrow of an observation in my mind, they stock a few other things that you would not be able to get at the price they have, e.g. a few of their Randalls would be cheaper than an online purchase after E-bay fan's got done jacking up the price on an auction.

Try Ross Cutlery, they usually have 20% off Spydercos, and 20% off saks as well, and other great deals. Very good selection of other brands to, Make sure you bring plenty of cash. The only bad thing about Ross is parking, expect to pay between 6-10 bucks. The sharpening is worth it though. Good Luck !

not sure if it is still there, but they do have a very good selection.

their prices are really high, so be prepared to haggle a bit.
