Hi folks,

I’m looking for a small lockback pocket knife, no pocket clip, wood or micarta scales with good fit and finish, approximate 3” blade; perhaps similar to the Buck 500 series, but with better steel and fit/finish. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think Bucks custom shop may have something similar but you’ve probably already checked there. Maybe @skblades have something very cool Buck CFOs. And last Böker has some lockbacks made in their Germany factory that are made of some good steels like cru wear some other CPM stuff and D2 they’re pricey tho that’s what’s keeping me off getting one

Keep an eye open for a GEC 72 Cody Scout. It checks all the boxes you're seeking.

Edit: Although I don't have any of these, you might consider:

1. Spyderco Chaparal, or a DC'ed Sage 4
2. Boker lockbacks (there's plenty)
3. Kabar (I think they have a wood lockback in that size range)

If Buck ever came out with an aluminum bolstered 112 again, I'd be all over that... although I'm waiting for their 112 LT due out later this year.
