What books have the various makers on this board found to be helpful as far as learning knifemaking methods? Thanks.

Step by step knifemaking by David Boyd (sp?) is what I started with.

In addition to the excellent books above I would like to add How to Make Knives by Loveless Moran, and Barney. This book holds a wealth of knowledge. I would also add Knives and Knifemakers by Sid Lathem. This book is out of print but worth looking for.

"$50 Knife Shop" by Wayne Goddard is another good one.

Wayne Godard's "Wonder of Knife Making" and Ed Fowler's "Knife Talk" 1 & 2 were very helpful to me.

I've also got Step-by-Step Knifemaking by David Boye. It's still got a lot of good stuff in it.

Lately I've been working on Heat Treatment, Selection, and Application of Tool Steels by Bill Bryson. It's a lot more interesting than it sounds, and man, does it have a lot of info. Not so much about the CPM steels or other stainless tool steels, but almost everything else you would want to know to harden your own blades.

Thanks all for your replies. A couple of the titles I already have, however,the Loveless/Moran/Barney and Goddard books sound especially interesting, I'm going to see about acquiring them right away.
