(well obviously, but..) has anyone bought a knife, expecting "EH.." quality, and have the knife just blow you away? if so, what knife was it?
for me, it was a Gerber Paraframe 1. i bought it more or less for a knife to test sharpening, and i thought it looked cool.:D
so i brought it out of the package and it was solid. the clip was nice, and the blade stayed in the handle. i even (sorry.....) batoned with it. no issues. blew me away

I bought a Boker Magnum Ergo on impulse because it looked pretty good for $6. The ergos are as good as the name proclaims, flipping the blade open and lockup are mechanically sound and the color is actually nice: halfway to burnt orange. The clip is cool and the hollow grind is decent. Other than the blade steel, what's not to like?

my Case yeller CV Sodbuster and My Opinel Carbon #7, both are just perfect and the case has cut, scraped and poked it's way into my hall of fame
highly recommend either one, both could be had for pretty good price too!

PS my old Gerber mini fastdraw is a keeper also although i gave it to my son a few years ago, great little knife beat the snot out of it still trucking along

The Byrd Line Of Knives!!! I Knew It Had To Be Decent Being Made By Spyderco But They Are A Separate Company, So I Wasn't Completely Sure At First, Until I Handled One. They Are Great Knives.

Also The Kershaw Scamp, And The CRKT Drifter.

Cold Steel Pendleton Lite Hunter. $12 knife. Surprisingly good quality. Surprisingly good performance of the cheap Krupps steel.

Tramontina Bolo Machete. I bought it for yardwork before I really got into knives. For $6 it does a pretty amazing job and can keep up with a number of significantly more expensive choppers. The handle is the only downside, but easily fixed with sandpaper.

Mora #1. I own plenty of other knives, almost all which cost many times what the More #1 set me back, but I've probably not needed a knife beyond what the Mora can do.

damn i was going to say kershaw chill, wow is that an excellent blade like holy helll its sharp and good looking

CRKT - Drifter $20
Kershaw - Chill $20
Spyderco Delica/Endura 4's are my favorite "knife for the money" choices. LOVE their FFG.

I recently bought a couple of Condor knives, and I have been very pleasantly surprised! The nessmuk is one of my favorite designs anyway, and the walnut handle combined with a truly nice leather sheath all for under $40 is a big value win for me!

I guess this one is a little bit unusual, a Kershaw 1993-2 . It is an older lockback with black micarta and a BEAUTIFULLY finished vg-10 blade. Made in Japan, not oregon, and not particularly cheap (I paid about 100). But the build quality is exceptional, dare I say better than any of my benchmades that cost were twice as much. nicest lockback I have handles, the fit when open is really something else, I don't have any customs but it sure feels like it.. If you can find one, it is (or was) a nice gentelemans folder with exceptional fit and finish. - hayes p.s. like HuntBomb said, an endura, for sheer usabilty, EDC, Value, is all in all a darn good blade, especially FFG (or ffg and foliage green g10:))

+1, Kershaw Chill is surprisingly sharp blade and good knife. I think I'm like the 4th use who has said this in this thread.

Count me in on the Kershaw Chill band wagon, tossed it into an order as a cheap bonus item while I was already paying shipping - it's gotten more pocket time than the EKA I ordered it with. Smooth, solid, and sharp!
