knives with surprising quality

Don't have a Chill but I got the Kershaw Scamp last week and honestly it's an amazing knife. $10 less than the tenacious and I think it's better than the tenacious for EDC. It's a framelock, with nice grippy G10 on one side and opens fast. The only small issues are the thumb stud is tiny and the lock is stiff (because it's steel). Still a very awesome nice, I'm going to start recommending it to friends as a first knife instead of the tenacious that I used to recommend.

For cheapos: Chinese Kershaws, Condors, many SRM and Enlan/Bee, Cold Steel Outdoorsman Lite, Pendleton Hunter Lite.

I've got an old German Brown Mule which I like a lot for the money. I think the steel is better than the Italian.

Still, I've been carrying an Italian Mule at work for the last week or two and it's a great little knife. The steel beats Opinel and takes a great edge.

+1 for the Kershaw Chill, and Cabela's is selling the serrated model for $12.99. Light, thin, well constructed, locks up well, good ergo, holds an edge well, does NOT rust easily, and looks good.

Mooremaker Roper. A folding knife w/ clip and a carbon steel blade. Fits my hand beautifully.

Next level, the Spyderco PPT. I got it slightly used. Figured it would be a good knife, but it's a lot more than that. Really a terrific knife.

The Sebenza. For years I read the raves, to the point that they were very obnoxious to me. Too much. Recently sold some writing, figured I had to try it finally. Lo and behold, it really, really is that amazing. My number one knife, and edc. I try and keep my mouth shut, however,

I picked up a Gerber Obsidian a long while back. I liked the look of it enough to get it, but had a feeling the quality would end up sub-par. The factory edge wasn't great, but nothing like use and sharpening to fix that. No play at all at the time of purchase, which I was a little surprised at. After months of daily use, it still had no play. Started drinking at my brother's place, and he had run out of kindling. I had the Obsidian, and decided, after a few strong brews, to go ahead and baton with it. Ended with no blade play. Even shaved cement board with it while remodeling a bathroom. The cheap steel got mangled pretty good, but sharpened out pretty quick. The knife performed so well, it ended up staying in my pocket all the time. The handle tools have come in handy a couple times, but I never put them to significant use since they don't completely lock. I have to say, for $25 it's been a damn good knife and well worth the money paid for it.

The biggest shocker for me was my Rough Rider gunstock jack I was in no way expecting the quality I recieved. This knife in terms of F&F rivaled Case and Buck.

Spyderco Delica & Endura
Kershaw Skyline
Benchmade Mini Grip
Enlan EL-02b
Buck Vantage
Case Sodbuster

Kershaw Crown- Every time I carry it, the F&F amazes me. Paid 15 dollars for it, and I've heard some have gotten it for $10. Can't beat it IMO.

The French douk-douk. A easy to sahrpen [no matter what you ahve to use] nearly expendable knife, that can be honed to replace your razor, yet beat hard and replaced with ease.

opininels are also low cost/high value. Most Swiss Army Knife/Victorianox are the same.

CRKT Lightfoot M1, beast of a knife with perfect lock up, good ergo's and a perfectly centered blade. AUS8 blade has held up well and that blade finish will not wear off. They seem to be well liked by owners and are not easy to find anymore.

Hmmmm, you see lots of threads like this, enumerating value knives. It's all good. Is it time for a sticky or a big handy dandy mega thread?

Heehee--glad you're enjoying it so much! I freaking love Douk Douks. :D

I get a laugh out of people who list Sebenzas and the like in threads like this. If you paid that kind of money for a knife and are surprised by the quality you should probably be more careful with your money.
Oh yeah, Douk-douks rule!:D:thumbup:

CRKT's Drifter. Only $20, Great price for a perfect sized edc blade that only looks "ok" to me. Nutnfancy review it, said it was a great value so I purchased one and I'm happy I did.
