Large Luzon

GSM Outdoors owns so much of the "sporting goods" industry. They own Bass Pro Shops, they own SOG Knives, they now own Cold Steel, and many other brands we've grown to love. It's truly sad, because profit is all they care about. I wouldn't even consider buying a SOG knife or machete these days, because I'd be getting far less than what I paid for. Sadly, that's the direction of Cold Steel too. I'm happy I bought most of my Cold Steel knives before the sale. That said, I really wanted the Cold Steel Jungle Machete, and it's no longer available. I guess I'll have to settle for my Royal kukri Machete.
I'm not trying to Sidetrack the thread however GSM owns Bass Pro Shops? That I did not know.

They do. It's pretty sad. I think they own another large sporting goods store as well. They won't be half until they own

I've been trying to research it. The conglomerate that owns Bass Pro Shops, also owns Cabela's. Apparently GSM Outdoors has very recently been acquired by Gridiron Capital, another conglomerate. These are crap times we're living in. Vulture capitalism should be illegal. Paul Singer ruined Cabela's and the entire small town of the Cabela's headquarters, several years back. If our country was still a constitutional republic, this type of vulture capitalism would be illegal (it is in the UK), and guys like Paul Singer would be in prison (gen-pop, not white collar prison). Now I'll have to research Gridiron Capital, to see everything they own. The news tries to stop you from obtaining the information. While I like Lynn Thompson, he's a sellout, and I'm pissed off. Andrew Demko abandoned him due to selling out to a giant conglomerate. Lynn thought he was still going to have control over knife designs. He quickly found out that wasn't the case. How naive is he? GSM Outdoors already discontinued the most popular Cold Steel knives, and they're moving all production to China. Cold Steel is dead, and I'm pretty salty about it.

Yeah it is pretty sad I guess. If they move production to China it's all over. It looks like it's all over for them anyway.

I believe this is incorrect. GSM owns Cold Steel and a bunch of other outdoor products companies. GSM is now a subsidiary of Gridiron Capital. Gridiron owns so many companies that it is difficult to list them all, and for all I know they are in turn owned by Blackrock. They certainly go on about leftist ESG crap on their website to make this seem possible.

Bass Pro is owned by Great Outdoors Group, which also owns Cabela's, Tracker boats, and a bunch of other companies. So far as I can tell they are their own thing.

I have both the large and medium Luzons. The medium is one of my most-used flippers. The steel may not be the best, but I find it very easy to sharpen.

I too have experienced having the liner lock push too far in my large Luzon. Had to oil and squeeze with pliers to release. It finds less use though. Too large to carry and I have a bunch of better fixed blades in regular rotation.

I think LCT did pretty dang good for a long, LONG time , in a very tough and competitive business .

Do we really know enough to judge his decisions on how to retire and sell HIS company ? 🤨 I surely do not !

I'm very disappointed in GSM handling of Cold Steel , but I think the blame should rest with them . :(

I think so, too. In the end it was his buisness, and he can sell it if he wants to. He did an outstanding job over decades and built up a large customer and fan base. One could only imagine what a true enthusiast could have built upon this base, but I guess we will never know😑

I had this happen too on one large Luzon, the other one didn't do it. For the price it is quiet nice, but it is not in same league as their other big folders. Since I don't care much about flippers, I would have loved to see a tri-ad version in aus10 made in taiwan of this. For xl voyager prices, this woud have been great.
