Leatherman Wave question - clip

I've seen reference to an optional clip that can be attached to a couple Leathermans (i.e. Charge, Wave). On the Leatherman site, there's mention
of the clip, but they seem to suggest that the clip will only fit on "2004" Waves (??). Was there some change to the Wave so that only some of the
Wave models will accept the clip?

Plus, is the clip attached with screws to one of the handles, or..?

the wave got a facelift in 2004 with the addition of a bit driver and all locking tools as some other little features. The pre-'04 waves are now retired and will not except the clip. The pocket clip actually slides into the slot and is held in with the new tool locking mech. The new Ti and Xti come with the clip, but the wave does not.

Hi Jake,

So can one determine that a Wave is the updated one *because* the implements all lock? In other words, did the older Wave have some implements which did not lock?
 
The inside tools on the older waves did not lock. The newer model all tools inside and out lock. There is also a date stamped inside the handles of most of these tools to determine the age of the tool.
