LED bulbs for MagLites

I recently saw that an LED replacement bulb is available for standard 3-cell MagLites. It's apparently a small array of 3 white LED's in a package like a PR bulb. Drops right into any C or D cell MagLite (though if it's more than a 3 cell you have to use slugs (fake batteries) to keep the voltage in the right range).

The pluses are supposed to be:
<ul>
[*]More uniform, whiter light
[*]10 times battery life
[*]Bulbs never need replacing
[/list]

Negative is stated to be that though the flashlight is as bright at closer ranges, it doesn't "throw" the beam as far as a halogen bulb. Cost is $18.

Does anyone here have any real-world experience with these bulbs?

Thanks,

Does anyone know if LED bulbs are available for the Mini Mags (AA+AAA) from some source?
Thanks!

FrankC,

I can speak for the LEDTronics Cool White version. They are bright for LED's. But holding a 3D Cell Mag-Lite you expect something brighter. They do last a long time though. As in battery runtime. I recomend spending your money on a 3AA 4LED flashlight like the Lightwave 2000 over the Mag-Lite/LED Bulb combo. The lightwave can be found at www.glow-bug.com and www.ndsproducts.com
