Lets see some Hinderer action

I haven't had any luck finding black hardware for my 18's.

I've been thinking of sending some (plain) hardware to Pop's Custom Clips to have them powder coated black; he does black powder coating of his custom clips and I'm certain he'd coat some hardware for a reasonable fee.

The scale I'm having made for it will mirror the one on the Fatty 'Poon in layout/structure, but I'm doing Micarta on this one; Maroon Linen Micarta on the bolster and "Oreo" Burlap Micarta for the main handle with a black G10 backing and pinstripe divider.

Sounds awesome, hope you post pics up when it's all done.

Did you guys get hit with that nasty ice/sleet mix like the other parts of NC?

That same storm dumped a shot of snow up here but luckily it was only about 4" and happened overnight. Now just a frigid 8 degrees.

Powder coating is not like anodizing.

It will change the way the threading on the hardware goes together, if at all.
You are changing the tolerances of very fine threads.

Heat ano, if you have an electronic stove turn it on high, once hot set a few pieces on it...watch it closely and in a min or 2 they'll turn bronze... best way for an even finish....can also use a torch but can be less consistent...then once they reached the shade bronze i wanted i take em off and drop em in windex.

My method is the same except 3 1/2 minutes(my stove has a glass top with heat elements under glass) and I don't do the windex. What does the winded do for yours? Whatever it does is probably from the ammonia?

When i drop in the windex it turns a shade darker than When it came off the stove...mine has glass over it as well but gets insanely hot

Interesting! You just opened up a whole new world of custom for me. I didn't know it was that simple to do at home. Thanks for sharing, guys. I believe, if I remember correctly, the ammonia causes a small chemical reaction that releases nitrogen, resulting in the color change. If anyone cares about the chemistry. Also cools it on contact, as Bobby said above. Stronger ammonia will give a "stonger" richer bronze.

Guess what I'm doing tonight while the wife's at work?!?! Do you guys rotate the hardware while it's on the heat or anything?

Nice fat scratch on my fatty straight from the dealer. As much as i want to like the wharncliffe blade style and after playing with it for a while, I never had that "bonding" moment that I've had with all my other hinderers so unfortunately this one's going back.
