Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Looks good  I could use that in the garden! :D
Hopefully I can find a use for it.
I've already got 8 or so machetes and didn't really need it.
Of course I didn't really need this one and am already planning to get the OKC 12" blade d guard machete with the orange handle.
That will probably get strapped to my minibike.

Cello Dan likes the shorter one. It's probably more generally useful, and it has a spring to retain the blade. I like the longer one because it's my bigger of only two that isn't covered with gaucho scenes, which I suspect real gauchos don't favor.

There was a nice older Punal sitting in an antiques cabinet in York for several years. Typically, the seller had no idea what it was, marking it as an "ornamental dagger", but still pricing it highly. Despite that, I kind of regret not buying it  This one was sold as a "letter-opener", cost me a tenner, I'm a bit embarrassed to show it in the other thread! :D

I like it!

right after I ordered that Old Hickory machete I started to regret it, it was a like new in box EBAY purchase for basically retail and I didn't realize at first that the seller had lost the sheath.

Well now I'm happy because it somehow how arrived in 2 days, and I have no use for a right handed sheath anyways.

I put a much thinner edge on it than I normally do my machetes, because this thing needs it.
Momentum is not on your side with a short 9" blade of traditional machete thickness.

If I have one complaint, it's the thin wide handle.

It's not unusable but will take some getting used to if I don't want to taper it in towards the blade.

I'll be interested to hear how that performs. I have a 12" South American one with an even deeper belly that I swear wreaks greater slaughter than my 30-incher with a straighter edge. But as you say, nine inches...
I don't know how popular Ontario's 12" beaver tail was. I think the point of percussion may be further forward than I can easily believe. I've got some stuff out back to play with it on.

I should have waited for better light, but I'm so busy:rolleyes:

I've been testing it a bit and so far I've been unimpressed by the performance.
I'm using it on typical light machete tasks though, maybe it's okay at small chopping tasks but it's not so great on weeds and stuff because it's just too short.
I'll have to keep testing till I find it's purpose, there's gotta be something it's good for.

Unless they had lost their marbles at Old Hickory.
It seems like they just wanted to make a mini version of their Bushcraft machete which this looks just like, the only difference being that the handle is walnut instead of micarta.

This orange handled 14" Barrigon pattern from Gavilan de incolma is my favorite smaller machete, it has a great handle and the 14" blade length is just right.
It's nowhere near as sharp as this new Old Hickory machete, but it runs circles around it with half the effort.

I haven't really used the 14" Latin pattern on the bottom because I don't like the handle, but I'm sure it would perform just as well. I think 9" is just too short for a machete, maybe if it had a much much broader blade or it was thicker / heavier it would perform better, but as is it just requires too much effort and energy.

This 18" gavilan bolo has kind of spoiled me though, it's such an amazing performing machete that nothing really compares.

Nice round handle on your favorite.
I went out to the garage to find a machete I modified as a kid, but I got distracted.
Here's a pan-fish knife that happens to be on the desk here.

No name on it.
