Lets talk GEC!

Ah, I should clarify based on size its definitely a 73 drop point Tidioute in smooth white or smooth ivory bone. I guess its production year is the only question mark.

perhaps @Jfowl31 can help?

That helps. It was hard to judge the size. I went through the GEC production totals and in 2009 they made 35 Smooth White Bone Tidioutes in a drop point #73 pattern and they weren't serialized. Sound like a winner? #735109

Second page, middle row, about two-thirds of the way down.

They made some in 2008 too, but they were serialized.

Almost a winner! Serialised means a number is etched on the bolster. This knife has no tang stamp.

There were some white drop point NKCA 73s in 2007, I think it could be a second from that run.

Edit: aha. Close inspection of the photo does show an S on the tang.

I knew serialized meant individually numbered... I just figured that if there was no tang stamp, it definitely wouldn't be individually numbered and the 2009 run was the only smooth white bone #73 Tidioute with a drop point that I was able to find that wasn't serialized. :) When I was searching for the #73 in smooth white bone, that NKCA knife from 2007 was one of the first to pop up but I disregarded it since it had the second shield. Maybe the second run didn't have the second shield though?

NKCA 2007 knife.

Thanks, yes it seems most likely. Hard to believe there are 500 of those NKCA 73 knives out there. Someone should start a catalogue of all the SFOs before its too late

Knife knuts are a fickle bunch... I like the looks of the 38's, if they had some two blade versions like say, with a pen blade, I would be all over them...
Couldn’t agree with this more. I own, use, and really like my 38, it isn’t my favorite, but it cuts an apple better than some of my favorites. Buy what you like, use it, and don’t worry about why others are or are not buying it. Just my humble opinion.

The GEC production database Darren created already has SFOs listed under brand, if you search SFO in the document there are 904

Camillus, you have an odd duck there. I'm reasonably certain the "Tidioute" script etch on the mark side was only used from 2006-2007, and they don't list any #73 smooth white bone covers during that time frame. The 735109 smooth white bone knives had a corset shield, so it isn't that. It could either be, A) an unlisted SFO from 2006-'07, or B) as the pivot pin is pretty visible, could be an early blade was put in a later or other frame. ???

Thanks Mcar.

I need help identifying this GEC. A recent Ebay purchase. In really bad condition. It has no year stamp on the tang.

It's not in that bad a condition, good reno project would clean it up into a very admirable user. some chips from the Barehead end can be removed with ease with paper, leather strop will clean the bolsters, pins and blade, then it's a grand used item. Some pin crack, but GEC of all brands seem the most susceptible to this. You should see my Beer Scout in Ivory Bone, lots of cracks and NEVER been dropped or banged down :(
