Lets talk GEC!

A stamped blade is something we will probably never see from GEC again. Bill has vowed to never do it again. I know they did some stamped blades on some 25’s, 36’s, and maybe some 73’s. Any others?

Pretty sure one of the first JFB Champlin 92’s had a “warranted” or “ galvanic” stamp. They also did some with etch only , like my example. Stamp is where it’s at !

Whittling knife? The pocket carver.

This piece was done at home so I have been using my carving knives. I think a Helvie for this one.
seems like such a great way to relax. I would like to pick this hobby up at some point this year. i guess "whittler" would have been the proper nomenclature lol.

I will refer you to Youtube, Doug Linker's channel. He does great knife only beginner tutorials.
Someone asked me to carve Bernie Sanders this weekend. My response was that I carve to relax and leave the real world behind for a little while, why on earth would I bring any of that political garbage in to that?

well you have already ruined it for me bringing politics into it haha. I was hoping whittling would be the furthest hobby away from all that garbage. In all seriousness, it really does seem relaxing - right up my alley.

Good day everyone, I’m new to GEC, and knife collecting. I like what is see with GEC but I (like most) have found it hard to get one when they come out. I located a knife I am interested in but it is a prototype and it says it on the blade and the lid of the container. Does this ruin the value of the knife? I apologize if I’m in the wrong place with this question. I’m new and hoping to learn from y’all! Thank You!

I believe the prototype stamp only increases the value. There are folks here with much more knowledge on the subject, so I would standby for more opinions. Prototypes are typically more rare though.

A member reached out to me earlier today regarding a Prototype he found listed. I took a gander (it's a dealer that isn't a BF supporter) and saw that they have a couple of last year's patterns listed as Prototypes and they are priced accordingly...

Thank You! I have a lot to learn about collecting and buying from those who support BF!

That's a very high price for that knife. I doubt you would be able to get your money back if you decided to sell it. I haven't noticed 'prototype' being something that increases GEC prices significantly, certainly not as much as reflected by that price.
I about fell down when I saw the price but I am buying a few other items if the price can drop down enough to make us both happy! I appreciate the quick responses and I hope to learn from this group!

I purchased both of the #33 prototypes that were listed but I also missed out on all the previous #33 drops. The prices weren't great but they were still lower than some of the secondary prices I've seen the regular 33's go for outside the BF. I hope to acquire all the variations of the 33's and this was a convenient way to do it for the 2020 versions. The fact that they are both prototypes is a bonus and does take some of the sting out of my wallet.

Was there a GEC magazine "cover" that had the three TC barlows in glitter gold, rose gold and Osage? If someone saved it or knows where it's posted could you post it here for me? Thanks!

A few things you should know:

1. GEC collecting is WAR!
2. GEC collecting is a full time job.
3. See 1 and 2.
