log cabin build from Sweden + nice axes

Thanks for these several Excellent detailed recipes for log-finishes,this info is extremely valuable.
(i apologise for my flippant remarks about "tar",of Course it's not as simple as that, and i'm properly and deservedly chastised).

Surprisingly, even the theory, the concept of porous vs non-porous finishes on logs is Far from common knowledge/usage in the US.

Not too many years ago there was actually a much-publicized lawsuit(whatchamacallit, when an entire large group of people is a plaintiff) against the company that manufactured that "Rawhide" product for log-house finishes...

I have built a cabin for a guy 20+years ago that i now see degrade very badly, having had that very crap applied to it's exterior....I remember arguing with the man about it,but failing to convince him that a shiny, plastic, impermeable coating will trap moisture and ruin the logs eventually(but will start Looking like s**t much sooner then that "eventually")....

Very sad and misguided aesthetic preference in the US about the bright-finish on wood needing to be shiny and glossy and Plasticky....:(....

even more people, who should know better have made this mistake, (and I don't include among them the one from the video whose background is USA styled public relations and not building). But just as you'd not apply this rye flour binder without its constituents, you must enhance the tar for it to be effective. My barn is tarred now, twice, for the last this past Spring, with tar used as the binder , lamp black to color which protects against uv and linseed oil for whatever purpose, I don't know, it made me feel good so I threw a portion in there. But for me it is an outstanding paint and tar is a pleasure working with, heating in a double boiler over a fire in the yard, that manly smell coming off of it. :)I do it as much for the process as the protection and aesthetic.

Class action

Having struggled some years against these crazy plastic finishes in USA I had some satisfaction once I moved to Europe in the mid nineties and saw that it was different there on the general level. That was short lived though because these factory produced, salesman pitched and installer pushed products soon overwhelmed, with Johan-Q-Public likewise swallowing the lies. Oh well, what can you do? Like my linseed oil addition, it's all about making some magic:p.
