Recommendation? Looking for an old west fighting knife

The old hickory knife is on the way, as are some 80 grit belts for our little 1x30 belt sander. Not the optimal tool ,but I figure between that, some files, a dremel, and a grinding wheel, It'll do just fine. I have some ideas as to what I'm going to do, as well as ideas for the sheath. Should be an interesting project. I was thinking of something similar to this.

Idaho Knife Works makes GREAT stuff, I recommend the San Francisco Bowie.

But be prepared to pull out the extra cash you have stashed in your wallet...

What exactly did you get ?
Butcher, Skinner, boning ?

I got the 7" butcher so I'd have plenty of steal to work with. After looking at the old hickory, and that knife I posted, I don't think it will be hard to get that shape. Some of the contours are already there.

Wouldn't be hard at all.
I personally would leave the stock blade shape as that's what many many carried in the period, but that patch style look you've got planned should certainly look nice.

If all goes well, I'll probably buy a bunch of these to play around with, so that's no problem. :D
