so ka-bars are pieces of crap huh?

once again, your not understanding me. im not a knife enthusiast. being part of a "secret club" of busse knife owners, doesnt appeal to me. no offense guys.

and obviously people do make knives with knuckle guards as bob bowie has just pointed out.

THEY ARE ILLEGAL WHERE YOU LIVE!! Let me be perfectly clear here. Are you asking for advice on how to procure an illegal weapon? I think you are.

Busse is a RECOMMENDATION, that's all. Ka-Bar is fine, you just can't add the ILLEGAL knuckles to it! My goodness, is it that hard to comprehend??

Don't pick specific details of my post to reply to. Unless you're a complete moron, you should understand what I'm telling you. Are you a moron?

You originally asked for an illegal piece of crap. Now you are trying to ruin a good knife in order to make it into an illegal piece of crap.

im sure you knew that i was buying the ka-bar tanto. if you havent figured that part out yet, this far into this thread, then you sir, are a moron.

What you are saying is, "I want an illegal piece of crap!" Then everyone says, "I don't think you should get an illegal piece of crap." Then you say, "Waaaaaaaahhhhhh, but I really want an illegal piece of crap!!"

that is what you said. so did, or did you not call ka-bar crap?

IMO there is very little difference between a troll and a someone who won't listen in terms of time wasted.

Yep. Trollality (made that up myself) and PT-ness confirmed.

In the words of the great Foghorn Leghorn, "Go away boy, ya bother me!"

go away? stop posting in my thread? how about that one. your the one thats coming to me.

i just dont see why you guys have a problem with what i like. regardless of what it is.

do you hear me telling you your stuff looks stupid? no, because 1) i dont care and 2) i dont care

Ok, mall-ninja and troll comments aside...

Ka-Bar does not make garbage, (though I think the thorn needs improvement), and they are a good place to start. I wouldn't say the BEST place but not bad. If you use it properly, your Ka-Bar might last long enough for your grandkids to admire it and it will certainly do what a quality knife should. Go for the Ka-Bar, just try to keep an open mind when people who are passionate about knives make suggestions as to how a responsible person handles/uses a knife.

There is no 'secret club' and we are not wierdos for having a better understanding of knives than most people. Owning a Busse knife because a lot of other people do and swear by them may not appeal to you but owning a Busse because they are simply a great knife should. Personally, I'm into Chris Reeves knives not because of the fan-clubs, legends, etc. that surround CRK products but because I've used them and found them to be pretty damn good compared to knives like, GASP, Ka-Bar.
My advice; Buy the Ka-Bar and hold on to it as your 'nice knife' and don't go digging with it. Buy the trench or knuckle knife and use the crap out of it. It's my guess that in short time, you'll find that the knuckle knife is really kind of silly and not very comfortable to use for ANYTHING. If, after using it for a year or two, you still love your knuckle-knife then you obviously didn't need any of our help in finding a good knife. From there, you can take the handles of of both knives and modify the Ka-Bar tang to fit into the rat-tail slot of the knuckle handle...
PROBLEM SOLVED

Head,
Your daddy is over-due for givin' you a good a** whippin'. You get into his tools and mess them up while you're tryin to make this fool hand guard, and he's really goin' whoop you good .....
Make sure you count your fingers before and after you start this .....
This kid is definitely in the top 10 here ..... just won't listen.

thanks bowie i just did!

thats all i really want. the tanto ka-bar blade in that black knuckle guard with individual slots.

if i could do the mod myself i would.

but i would have no idea how to get the blade/tang out of the knuckle guard with out messing it up.

and likewise getting the rubber handle and end cap off the kabar to put back into the knuckle guard.

I'll do the handle mods for ya...

just $19.95 + s/h.

If you act now in the next 10 minutes...I throw in a genuine katana for free. :D

:foot:

agoutihead - I'm obviously pullin' your leg...but ya know....I wouldn't touch the project with a 10-foot pole. There are probably makers that will make you a new one...based loosely on your ideas...but modifying a low-quality knife....no pride/dignity in that job...

Your best bet is to just find the closest thing to what you want...buy it...play around with it for a while...then, when ready to move on, find something else.

Many of us here entered the custom knife world through fantasy knives...no shame in admitting that. But I promise you...even if you find somebody to mod the knife for you to your specs...you will be bored/unsatisfied with it within a year's time.

Welcome to Bladeforums. Stick around a while...get to know us...find out what makes a quality knife and practical design. Learn a thing or two. Buy stuff...and put it to the test.

I've been asked to make a brass knuckle knife before...and even agreed to do it. But, the cost is usually higher than the person wants to pay.

Best of luck in your search.

Hilarious.
I was looking for a good representative pic of a busse knife with finger guard hole 'talon hole' and found this:
frontpic.jpg

Argonne Assault, Busse combat 20th anniv.

Agoutihead, Busse's frequently feature a small hole pre-drilled into the finger guard and butt of the knife. if you were to grind the palm swell off of an existing pair of knucks, you could attach the business end to a busse handle via those holes. Since you live in the other Ohio where knucks aren't illegal, you shouldn't have any problem buying a set or two to tinker around with.

Here's the attachment method I'm trying to describe:

In the upper right hand corner you can see how this would come together:

Busse also manufactured a crazy knuckle duster type of knife that I can't seem to remember the name of right now (not the holy terror). It makes your tanto with knucks look tame by comparison. Everyone recommending Busse might be forgetting that they've made a few Mall Ninja looking toys too. VFAA, HT, PD variant.

I'll post the crazy Busse if I can find it.

Yeah, but mall ninjas burst into flame when they come in contact with something blessed by Jerry. :D

thank you sir! i bow to you! now what do all of the busse fans have to say about this one? stupid and mall ninja? but i bet since its a "busse", all of a sudden their ok with it and actually "kind of like it"

im not sure i understand the mod you described though. i guess its better i leave it up to a professional.

the argonne assault, is the blade, tang and knuckle guard all one piece of metal?

or is the knuckle guard a separate piece on that knife?

Diversionmary,
About the knives you posted, the way the holes seem to line up so well with the holes on that other thing's hand guard, it seems planned....is it?

Don't get me wrong kid. I'm on their side. Busse makes variants and custom knives that are too-pretty-to-use far more than outlandish too-impractical-to-use designs.

Basically, use the two hole spredrilled on a busse to attach a set of ground down knucks.

Yes, the micarta slabs are attached to the solid blade-tang-knuckle slab. I bet it's really heavy too.

I was attracted to the Gil Hibben fantasy death puncher designs back when I was a kid and my dad took me to gunshows and it took a lot of years to learn what a quality knife was. I can remember handling my first benchmade with axis lock and being completely flabbergasted that ANYONE would spend $100 on a pocket knife.

A professor used to say 'You're young, it's not your fault." Stick around a while. :)
