I'm looking for pics of stabilized desert ironwood and NON-stabilized/regular desert ironwood scales. I think that if ironwood is stabilized it tends to be darker, but I've seen supposedly non-stabilized ironwood scales look fairly dark as well. Any pics of stabilized vs. non-stabilized desert ironwood (esp. burl) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ironwood tends to darken with just UV exposure. Stabilizing would tend to retard this process, although there is no reason to stabilize ironwood, IMO.
It is a very dense wood. But if you want to see photos of it, try these sites.

As you will see, it comes in all shades, I have used flame that did not darken, I have logs of it in my shop, that are almost as black as ebony. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the links.

I am, however, aware that due to its density and oils, desert ironwood USUALLY isn't stabilized. Most pics and knives I've seen using ironwood is of the non-stabilized variety.

However, a while ago, I came across 2 knives that used stabilized desert ironwood for scales. I noticed that on both knives the scales appeared darker than what I've regularly seen (though close with in range what might be expected of darker shades of ironwood). I was looking for stabilized ironwood pics to see if the stabilization process had anything to due with the darker colors.

Thanks again.
