Louisiana?

I love visiting New Orleans when I'm down that way to see family but it's definitely not a place I will ever willingly move to. That being said, if you do decide to go to Cafe DuMonde, just walk around the line and go in the side entrance to find a table. Seat yourself and wait to order. Cash only there, though. And mind the wind direction. Powdered sugar everywhere! 🤣 Haven't been to the zoo or aquarium in decades but Audubon park is great! Went the WWII museum decades ago, too. Some of my grandfather's pictures from his scrap book during his time in the Pacific ended up as back drops for the exhibits at one point. I should go back and ask if they're still up. 🤔 Some of the best eats around are definitely the tiny mom and pop places! Don't just limit yourself to the stuff in the French Quarter but do mind where you go. Also, a trolley ride is a cheap, fun way to see the city!

Texas is where my heart is, spent 4 years at Ft Hood. Weekends in Austin, Dallas, Waco, Marble Falls, Burnet, San Antanio. Stayed away from Houston though.
I was born in San Marcos. I’ll always love that hill country. If I could afford it, I’d love to live in Round Rock or maybe Buda. Close to Austin but not haha. We moved to the Dallas area as a kid. Grew up in that area. Enlisted. Spent most my time in Norfuck Virginia. But my brief music career took me all over. I chose to come back to Texas. I’m about a hour north of Dallas now. Closer to Oklahoma than Dallas.

We plan to trolly and bus mostly. Occasional Uber. I remember Cafe DuMonde is a staple. Although I recall there being better around. But wife has never been and that’s part of the “tourist” experience. I’m a big antique fan. Mostly for the knives. There is a huge mall (the Magazine Antique Mall) that I really wanna check out. See if I can’t find a cool souvenir knife.

Hey, that sounds like an awesome plan! The Hill Country is amazing, too. My girlfriend and I go to Fredericksburg a few times a year. Last time we went, we stopped at the Rhinory and got to drink wine and pet the rhino. Amazing experience but maybe not the best idea to mix alcohol and a 5'4" tall, 4000lb wild animal? Lmao. But it was a really awesome experience that nobody else I know personally has done!

Hey y'all, I know this is an older thread so I hope noone minds me hijacking it a bit. I'm thinking about moving to the NOLA general area. Looked at Thibodaux, Hammond and Slidell as options... Can't live IN the city... Any suggestions?

DO ride a streetcar out to the Garden District and give yourself a couple of hours to walk around and look at the houses and yards. There's a fascinating cemetery to wander around in right across the street from Commander's Palace, where you will want to have a fine meal. Commander's is not 100% like it used to be when they required men to wear a jacket (they even had loaners) but it is still a New Orleans experience that's not to be missed. Neither is Acme Oyster House. Have fun, don't worry, I've been there many times and no trouble. Oh, and do not ever get into a conversation about where you got your shoes.

No one's gonna ask me where I got my worn out USMC RAT boots..😉
I'm looking to permanently relocate there.... Tired of winter, even here in Kentuckiana...

All those areas are nice and good for fishing but not close to the city. Slidell is the closest being maybe 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic.

If you’re looking to be close to nola then look at the westbank which is pretty affordable or metairie which is little more expensive but has areas still affordable. If not worried about being close to nola them those areas you’re looking at are nice smaller towns.

I need to be relatively close to the airport.,. I travel somewhat frequently for work. I'm a Saturday spent in the city and get the h@#$ out kinda guy...thanks for the Intel.
