Luminox Vs. Seiko Vs. ???????

You can get a very nice Seiko SKX007k automatic 200M diver at www.chronograph.com for $128.00 shipped, or get an Orange (SKX781K3) or Black Monster (SKX779K3) both automatics on a rubber strap for $148.00 shipped. I have had an Orange Monster for about a year two years and really like it. I wear it mowing the yard, chain sawing, whatever I'm doing and it hasn't missed a beat, though YMMV.

Like Buzzbait said, people either really like automatics or they don't. The two Seiko's above are automatics that use the 7S26 movement which is non-hackable and non-manual windable. But is well known for it's durability.

If you want pure ruggedness, get yourself a G-Shock DW-6600. It isn't fancy, but it's tough as nails and you won't worry about it. In fact, I think it looks better the more it gets beat up, gives it character. You can find them new for $40.00 if you look around.

ps I have no affiliation with www.chronograph.com, just a satisfied customer.

So what's the difference between the Seiko 200M Auto Diver and the Black Monster (SKX779K3), besides the appearance?

I really like the Seiko SKX007K--I think this one looks nice in the brown leather.... http://www.chronograph.com/store/mli_viewItem.asp?idproduct=1602

The SKX007J looks the same but is made in Japan, and is more money...

Is the Japanese one worth the extra dough? They have the same automatic movement...

Basically appearance, they both use the same movement. From everything I have read, there is no quality difference between the SKX007K and SKX007J and they are the exact same watch. One is assembled in Hong Kong, the other is assembled in Japan but both are using the same exact parts. If I was going to buy one, it would be the SKX007K because I'm frugal (ok, poor), but that's me not you. :)
I believe the Orange and Black "Monsters" are assembled in Hong Kong and nobody complains about their quality, so go figure. Now, I also believe the assembly is all automated and done by machines, not humans. That being the case, it's more than likely the same equipment is being used in both Hong Kong and Japan. And it's not like the guys at the Japan assembly factory are sending their rejected parts to the Hong Kong assembly factory. Seiko's name and warranty are on both watches, so personally I wouldn't worry about country of assembly.

You'll get a kick out of what this guy did to his SKX007K ... torture a Seiko SKX007.

I just received my Luminox just about a week ago and I am very satisfied with it. I love the tritium, but it looks like that's not going to be major selling point when it comes to these kinds of watches. The entire casing is also made of titanium, and I am quite partial to Ti. I looked at some Seikos and like the way they look. Saw quite a few Seikos in Ti also that I liked on ebay but were from Hong Kong. I was a bit skeptical with the prices, but as Yam stated, I guess it depend on where it is assembled or made.

The differences are very subtle. The Monster has a domed crystal, instead of a flat one. Also, the Monster's bezel slopes inwards, so the full face of the bezel doesn't get all dinged up. The lug sizes are also a hair different.

Some other differences:

The Monsters have two bezel guards, one from the 10:30 position to the 1:30 position, and the other from the 4:00 position to the 7:30 position, and a small guard on the upper side of the crown.

And the Monsters also have the lume on the correct end of the second's hand--the far end that indicates the actual time.

I am trying to decide between a Seiko 200M diver, or the Monster, or a for a little more dough getting a Yao customized 200M auto diver...

decisions, decisions,.....

If you can swing the Yao diver, I'd go with that one. The face will be different than most you'll see, also he'll regulate the watch for you- which is a VERY good thing since it'll improve accuracy in the watch from the moment you put it on. They're also very well done.

i reccomend the h3 6506

it is comfortable
strong (i have accidently hit it against things like breezeblocks and lampposts)
i have had it for a year and you cant see a scratch on it even though i wear it 24-7
it keeps very good time
has tritium glowing tubes
black canvas strap very comfy
all titanium case so if you are allergic to nickel you will be fine
and i scuba dive in it!

all in all, Perfection!!!!!:D
