I've got a mirror-finish m43 and CAK that are incredibly beautiful... but they're also incredibly prone to scratches. Any insights on how I can remedy this (besides opting for a villager finish)?

Without a buffer and compound it will be nearly impossible to maintain the mirror finish on a user blade.A number of guys apply a patina with various types of acid,ie.,mustard,vinegar,etc. Personally, I just apply Renaissance wax to keep the blade from developing rust and let the scratches be a sign of the character of a hard working knife.Joe.

The simplest solution is to use an Ugly Villager or KLUV for chopping and reserve the mirror-finish blades for ogling, fondling and showing off. The UVs and KLUVs are just as good for hard work, and much less expensive than their highly polished siblings.

You can also get a satin finish "villager" but most of them cost just as much as a polished blade.
