Manix 2 LW screw conversion

How much would I have to pay you to perform this on mine?

Sorry.
I am not offering any services for doing the conversion.
This post was just a fun project for me to undertake and posted for information
guidance.

I cannot stress enough that a Drill press and sharp bits are the key
to success.

Well after my last BD1 conversion hit a serious snag.
Drill bit broken in the hardened blade stop
and slightly hurt in the wallet.

I took the plunge again but with a dremil and diamond bits.
Ground off the rivet heads. 4 times.

Hardest part was opening the hole on the steel lock bar. Diamond bit ground it to a larger dia.
Bushing guides easily opened up.

For now...

Minor fitting of threaded post will continue later.

Scales awaiting Walmart run for yellow RIT dye.

It's done.
LW Manix, M4, ceramic ball and Spring Mod.
I swapped out the black cage for a clear.

Hey UXO,

I made an attempt to RIT dye my Maxamet Manix 2 and totally failed. I used the same process I used for my Ivory FRN Straight Spine Stretch, with no results after an hour of soaking (the Stretch only took 5 minutes). Would you mind sharing your process for RIT Dyeing here?

Second, would you mind sharing what you used for hardware on the screw-together mod? I may have missed it in the thread, but I couldn't find the info.

I also do not understand why Manix is riveted.
What is the diameter of the rivets? Is it necessary to drill all holes to 1/8"?

Edit: I have found it on other forums, it is 3 mm.

I used an 1/8th because that is the size of the replacement hardware I bought.
Use what you want

Suprise, the pins are ~2.7 mm! I still have to drill the insert for my 3 mm hardware.
I thought that drilling the rivets is frustrating, but for drilling the insert I have to buy a much better drill bit

uxo2 uxo2 Thanks for the inspiration :)

Nice work..
Shoot me your email address.
I'll send you a ceramic bearing.
Thank you very much! However... I live in Europe, shipping cost makes is unreasonable ;) On the other hand, 3/16" Si3N4 bearing balls are available here :)

Just wanted to add my voice to those requesting screws, instead of anything that prevents the end user from easily disassembling their Spyderco knives. Also, I'll probably be drilling out my factory second Maxamet LW before long. I'll let y'all know how it went, when that time comes to pass.

Cheers,
