Technical point: although it is frequently called the Congressional Medal of Honor, its proper name is the Medal of Honor, approved by the Congress and awarded by the President.

I wonder where Old_Soldier is. He has posted, in another thread and long ago, that it is foolish to throw oneself upon a grenade, that there are better ways with which to handle it. I seem to remember that he was of the opinion that it reflected badly on the training of those who did. As you can see from my prior post, I do not agree.
 
Sgt. Peralta most likely did what he had to do knowing that he was dead anyway from the wounds he recieved earlier in the raid. I doubt highly it was "poor training". Only he knows what he was thinking at the time. He saved his fellow Marines and no one can't fault him for his self sacrifice.
 
Ken, I agree, and I hold such people in the highest of regard. I was only remembering a post in a thread a long time ago on the subject, IIRC, of sacrificial and nonviolent martyrdom.
