May the 4th.
To most of you this is just any other saturday, or maybe star wars day for some.

For me, a Dutch man, this is not just any other day.
On may the 5th, we celebrate our freedom from the German opression in WW2.
It was 74 years ago tomorrow, that the allied army had thier victory in Holland.

Before we celibrate our freedom, we remember the death and suffering.
On May the 4th we remember the soldiers, the cictizens, the holocaust victims and the resistance members that all died in the horrors of WW2.
At 20:00, the trains stay still, shops are closed, music goes silent as 17 million Dutch people go quiet for 2 minutes, and our thoughts go to these people.

Many of those that came here in 1944, to free my country, were from The US and Canada.
Young men fighting on the other side of the world in a country they had never been to, freeing people they never knew, fighting an enemy that was no threat to thier life at home.

They died, so that i may live my life the way i want to.
Tonight at 20:00, my thoughts go to those men, who fought and died here.

If you are related to a vetaran who fought in Holland in 1944 and 1945, please know that 74 years later we still remember thier sacrifice, and they will NEVER be forgotten.

Thank you.
