Mega or Survival Keychains

This is what I just carry to work, the spy-capsule holds 5 300 mg Asperin tablets. The little torpedo silver light has an UV LED to check banknotes or charge the Super Luminova of my watch in 2 seconds.

I can make out the Micra, Spy Capsule, Photon II, Swiss-Tech Screwzall, Handcuff key, and silver torpedo light, but what's the green thing and the long black item (a AA Mini Maglite)?

Cardimon,

That's the latest Traser Glowring called X2, it has aluminium turned end pieces that are super glued to an colored drilled plastic tube (the color is the color that the Glowtube emits when the light level is low) the daytime color makes for an more 'attractive' key-chain attachment and in the dark the Glowtube emits also green 'light'
(they are also available in Pink and Ice-Blue)

Here's an enlarged keychain with additional clipped on selection of tools:

Would you mind feeding my inner child by describing the items you have added?

I think I see sliver grippers and a P-38 can opener. The other new items may be a metal match and some sort of a whistle.

Thanks for replying. My state of Keychain Envy is now officially High. May have to do something about this. Grin.

My keyring - pictureless, sorry has:

Comtech Stinger
Photon II Microlight
Arc AAA - in Normark Kydex
Leatherman Micra - in Normark Kydex

Doncha just love that thing? It's like a bloody work of art. My already warm credit card will be getting a wee bit hotter, I think. Grin.

Cardimon,

you had all 4 items right, Sliver Grippers, P38, Permanent Match and this one keeps its fuel 'forever' and the whistle is an extremely loud ACME Tornado 2000 that I cut the sides off to make it more carry-able.

I haven't shown you the "firemaking" clip-on nor the sharpening clip-on.

Ryan,

Most military surplus stores and outdoor sports shops carry then in the Netherlands, the quality varies, what not varies is that all off them come from China :(

The one that I carry was bought from Globetrotter (Germany) for about $3 or so.

Well unfortunately I don't have a scanner or digital camera so I'll have to do this the "old fashioned" way and just write it out.

Large ring
-Green spy capsule
-Gold small size cylindrical whistle from Bison (not as loud as my Fox 40s, but close and much smaller)
-Key to wife's car
-3 work keys
-House keys
-Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers
-Suncor small stainless snap from Berkeley Point which hooks to

Somewhat smaller ring w/
-Car remote
-Car key
-Green glowring (one of the newer ones, but not an X2 yet)
-Turquoise Photon II

Attached to the bigger ring is usually (99% of the time) my ArcAAA White LED

I had attached to my keys for a while a Screwzall, Micra, and Doneright Mfg small ferro/mag firestarter. The screwzall and firestarter went into my mini PSK that is always in my backpack. I found I didn't use the Micra all that often. It's not like I am ever lacking a sharp edge about my person. The Micra rides along when I need a little "knife" that won't make me PO if I lose it.

This stuff usually rides in my pocket, but sometimes on my belt. I kept scratching my car and our door frames with all that on my belt though. Not to mention sounding like a tinkers wagon being pulled down a bumpy road. ;)

It's funny, I can't get enough of these sorts of threads.

I have a feeling I could identify a lot of members of this board just by looking at the contents of their pockets.

ryan, you can get a metal match at many sporting goods stores as part of a firestarting kit by coghlan (sp?) it's a clear box that comes with tinder (looks like impregnated cotton balls and the metal match with o-ring seal. nice and cheap, 4 bills maybe?

I have yet to find a positive review of the Permanent Match. They seem to be either negative or wishy-washy about it.

yeah, i dunno, i can say it works well as just a ferrocium rod, and you could maybe stuff a cotton ball into the fuel chamber and have built in fuel and a firestarter (i'll have to try that). i dunno, when it works it's extremely convenient to have a match that you can burn pretty much as long as you need to. it's also a lot harder to put out than a regular match. however at the price you pay for one of those coglan kits it's worth it, just to mess around. plus you get some good tinder that you could use for practice (if you have another preferred type of tinder). i don't know why it works sometimes but not others, it has something to do with the wick. i dunno, i'll mess around with it some more and report back. i gotta say though, it does work fine as a ferrocium rod, and since the rod is kinda recessed into the plastic you don't have to worry about it breaking like you would with some others. also it doesn't product a huge amount of sparks but that can be good if you're practicing using natural materials or whatever, because if you can do it with that i would imagine you could do it with a larger rod. so consider this a (pretty) positive review. certainly worth checking out. hope this was useful for someone. post more pics/descriptions of keychains.

Pete

[edited to add: on yeah, it has a keyring attachment point too though you would need a pretty small split ring.]

Yes, thank you. And any images would be appreciated.

That looks like a super-keychain to me, Bagheera. Your pockets must be pretty big! :D :D

I used to know but have since forgotten, what is the name of the guy/website that makes those little holsters for the micra and AAA?

Normark (eric) of this parish :)

His gear can be found here.

I'd add a personal recommendation for him. I use his micro rigs, too.

I'll add a third recommendation to that. Very handy to have and very cheap too!
