Merrell Footwear - Worth It?

I just got a pair of Merrell's a few months ago, and so far they rock  It is admittedly my first pair of dedicated hiking shoes (I used regular running shoes previously), but they definitely feel like quality. I went into my local REI and spent a few hours trying on a bunch, the Merrells (Outland model I think) fit my wide flat feet the best. I made sure to get some good insoles as well, and of course, good socks are key. I love now being able to walk right through water or muddy trails (as long as it's under the top of the shoe) without having to worry about wet socks :)

Overall, it seems to me that Merrell makes great quality shoes. I'm happy with mine so far.

I have some Merrells that have stood up to a lot of rocky trail miles. I really like them. They are far more comfortable than the Vasques that they replaced.

my experience is spotty. i have a pair of back-packing boots from them. the boots are difficult to lace up, and are very slippery on many harder surfaces. they offer OK support, but are a bit narrow for my duck-feet, like someone mentioned above.

i would not recommend the pair i have.

Maybe I bought the one bad pair they ever made, but they literally unravelled off my feet. Stitching came undone and toecap seperated from the boot. These were some light hikers from about ten or twelve years ago, but I haven't considered even looking at Merrells since then. :grumpy:

I'm going to have to give Merrell another  as well. I have a pair of trail shoes I picked up at least 3 years ago and they're still going strong. They fit my wide feet very well. Not too loose, not too snug. Great durability and support.

I do have to say that I just picked up a pair of Keen hiking boots that I'm eager to test out. I've heard good things about them as well.

I have been in Merrells for the last 12 years and feel you get what you pay for, quality product. I just about cried when they discontinued the M2 Blast, which were my favorites hands down.

I had a pair of Merrells before I switched over to Danner boots. Great shoes, comfortable and very durable. My only problem with them was the pair I had used some sort of alternate "waterproofing" that held water inside the shoe better than keeping it out, so I constantly had wet feet. A non-waterproofed pair would probably not have had the same problem, and I have had much better experience with gore-tex boots as well. Were it not for that problem I would probably still be actively using the Merrels, now they just sit in a closet somewhere.

I have a pair of Merrell Winter Moc's that I bought back in 2000. I finally semi-retired them last year - they have NO rubber left on the bottom and are no longer waterproof; when I realized that is when I replaced them with a pair of Merrell Jungle Moc's. Both sets are simply the most comfortable pair of shoes I've worn.

I have a pair of their hiking shoes. Can't remember the model off the top of my head but they are great. I didn't need to break them in at all and they have good traction and have held up well. My only complaint is that they don't breathe that well (maybe due to them being mostly leather with some gortex.
