micarta as a spacer

Has anyone used thin micarta as the spacer "U" inside a sheath? I have some micarta made of burlap and I was sort of thinking that it would provide a rigid support. The rest of the sheath would be leather and made the normal way.

Any ideas?

Interesting! The idea sounds good, would make a really nice looking welt showing through. Drilling for stitching holes might be long and rather difficult but the result would be very nice. I'd love to see one done. With the right tools and some patience, you'd have something special. :)

I wouldn't use micarta for the welt. Sure, it'll protect the stitching, but micarta is pretty rough on a good edge.

If done correctly, the edge wont even get close to the micarta. Its not about protecting the stitches at this point, the micarta will make a statement.
