By now, most of you know how much the scales for the Izula improve the feel of the knife. I figured I'd throw this up for those of you on the fence, and any one else who might find it interesting.

Here we go:

I'm showing the weight of the knife with scales at about 2.7 oz.

Now for reference, I'm showing the weight of the knife with a paracord wrap at about 2.4 oz.

To compare this with a common folder (spyderco FFG endura) which I'm finding a weight of about 3.4 oz.

As you can see the micarta scales for the ESEE Izula do not add a lot of weight. In fact I am showing a difference of about a third of an oz., between a paracord wrapped Izula and one with the scales.

Neither option adds a ton of weight to the knife, as I'm showing a bare a$$ naked weight of about 2 oz.

The scales are very easy to install. You will need a T10 torque driver. Two of them wouldn't hurt if you would like to get them REALLY tight, although I don't think this is necessary.

The Micarta scales for Izula are an inexpensive and light weight option that adds a lot in the way of comfort. I'm sure many people around these parts would agree.

Go buy some.

very nice write-up  so what else do you use the scales for?:D

That's incredibly useful information. Thanks. I just ordered an Izula. I was planning on getting the scales before I read the entire handle wrapping photo thread. Now I want to experiment with wrapping. Your photos have pretty much convinced me that I will eventually add the Micarta scales.

P.S. Most of your weights should be rounded up by a tenth because of the large numbers in the hundredth place. Not a significant error, though.

I love the one I have on mine too. I have thought about getting another and having the handle go all the way out to the butt with a hole for the lanyard. I thought that might even make it fit my hand better. Who is making the custom handles I have seen around here recently?

Great review:thumbup:. I have two, one with scales and one with paracord:). Scales seem more comfortable, liked them both:D Who is making custom scales?

thats great info, mine has paracord and really want to try the scales and was wondering about weight since I carry mine as a necker. thanks for the write up

Nice write up. I'm loving mine.

Is in my pocket right now and will be there all summer- great knife for shorts pocket.

Was cool to see with the endura- reminds you how tough the izula is and how it weighs nothing...

I guess I'm in the minority on the handle scales. It feels like I'm only holding the knife with 3 fingers. I much prefer the wrapped feel.

I love the scales. I never used the paracord wrap before the scales came out. Nice review.

How much room would there be to fit stuff inside the handles? I know people do it with the HEST all the time, but the IZULA is obviously smaller there
