Military For Self Defense?

Or maybe a smaller knife that was always with you and maybe serrated.

No, my first choice wouldn't be something even smaller. The ARK was designed to be *always* with wearers, even in the shower, but any larger Spyderco is a better choice if you have the option, just like a firearm is almost always an even better choice if you have one.

What's your favorite of the 2 edges? the straight or the serrated? Both for "practical use" and "personal opinion" in case they differ.

Sal says serrated H1 is the highest performing steel Spyderco has. Especially on a knife carried as a last-ditch defensive option, I'd go with SE. Now, if a user intends to use an ARK as an EDC user, PE is probably a better choice for ease of resharpening, so long as the user understands PE H1 doesn't have great edge retention compared to most modern knife steels.

Swords are very effective at close range, but not the easiest items to conceal unless you're on the set of Highlander.

Tbf ,the Spyderco Massad Ayoob looks like a knife just begging for a CM wave mod.

As big of a fan as I am of the C-60 Ayoob model I would love to try a Sprint Run with either a wave modification or some other "quick deploy" helper. Now don't get me wrong because if you read my first post on this thread I let you all know that my main EDC for well over a year has been my M390 Military model and I plan on using it at least one more year if not longer. A Military model with one of the better blade steels is a fantastic EDC folder IMO.

But from an ergonomic standpoint I still like the C-60 Ayoob just a bit better. Not only would I like to see a wave or some other type of "quick deploy" device on a new Sprint Run C-60 Ayoob but I think it's also high time to try the C-60 with one of the newer/better blade steels. If all of that were to happen I would probably have a new EDC.

But I will always love my C-36 Military models. Spyderco couldn't pick a better knife to use to introduce these newer/better supersteel blades with. I would also at some point like to see them try out some new handle materials as well on that model.
