I recently became aware we have a 13 year old member who has been visiting the Pirates Cove. He has made no attempt to decieve anyone as he readily admits his age. The cove has a lot of material of an adult nature, and isn't the place for minors. I'd like to suggest a pre-warning/sign in prior to entrance to the cove, in which it states that you are of legal age to view adult material of a sexual nature. While it won't stop everyone, at least BF will have done their due dilegence to stop/warn minors.

Too many 13/14 year olds think they are very mature and whatnot, I know I was the same way. Remember, 13 year olds are middle schoolers lol

Parents responsibility, Spark might only wish to consider it from a liability standpoint...maybe.

I agree with this view 100%. It's not BFC's job to teach kids what's right or appropriate for them, it however is BFC's job to cover its own ass, COPA is serious business and they seriously come down on violations. I would think there should be, at minimum, some sort of pop-up disclaimer if not more.

The COPA disclaimer is covered (compliance wise) when you register, but it wouldn't cover the material in the "place that shall go unnamed" as you have all stated.

At the bottom of every page:

BladeForums.com is an adult website with adult discussions.
In accordance with the COPPA, no one under the age of 13 may join BladeForums.com

I posted that same statement Mr Benyamin just did in my reply to another thread. To be quite honest as a regular in Whine and Cheese I have become accustomed to the usual banter and conversations I enjoy among the regular contributors there. It is very easy to forget that any user here regardless of age can and do become paying members and thus have access to sub forums of an adult nature. I posted a thought about 'since I'm a mute I get to tell my wife I love her with my hands'. When I made that comment I was going back and forth with my regular 'buds' in W&C. A few posts later I saw the comment I made quoted and a Thumbs Up posted underneath it () from a platinum member who has openly said he is 13 years old. While not an obscene remark on my part I did feel awkward posting that in a room full of children.
The other common thought is how "Mature" many of our teen members are. Really? Try mailing one a pocket knife. Suddenly "Mature" takes on a whole new meaning.

" Honestly, Mrs. Concerned Angry Parent, your little boy certainly seemed like a SpyderCo Salt was something he could handle. No maam, it never occured to me he would take it to 6th grade Show & Tell. No I cant imagine you and your Husbands disbelief when he told the class he got it off the internet from this cool one eyed old guy. Yes Maam. Yes Maam."

Now I know you're thinking "We're not talking about sending a minor a knife, we're talking about minors in the cove." But I retort with
Go to Jim Beams Whiskey Website. You got to state you are legal drinking age to enter that site. Why? You gonna sample some product thru your flat screen? Its because its not appropriate for a child to be there because children can not legaly drink Jim Beam.
So based on that, if a kids to young to own a knife, why is he on a knife forum looking at nude girls and reading our adult drivel?

It would be so much easier to just ban the porn...

Which is what will happen if people keep whining about the kids and making a fuss. You can't stop people from going to websites.

I love how people think that Spark just has to push a button to add a feature, or that he coded all this, and just writes more code when he wants to add something. I don't think VBulletin offers age restrictions that are versatile and configurable (if they did, it would be one of the easiest to bypass features on the planet anyway), and even though there may be a plugin that could be integrated, there are always problems when you go to integrate plugins like that (think about how long it took to get the ads worked out), and problems are compounded on a forum that is extremely active and or already has a lot of plugins.

If it's such a big deal and keeps being a matter of contention, something else might be done about it. I don't think that it will be the answer that the people that are complaining want though.

Just thinking yes I know:rolleyes: if anything else this is a great advertisement for our younger members to visit the evil Cove.

If Esav or the other mods think this is a non-issue, I'll be very happy to close the thread and let it sink out'a sight.

Cant visit what you don't know about. Hello?

I could always change the title, Billy. How about "Mice in the Cove." ??

It isn't just an age thing. We can and do see people much older than 13 show up here as scammers, trolls, dumbasses. It's part of a very human belief system: "No one else is as smart as me!"

Do what you think is best, and don't worry too much what the rest of us are up to. Which is probably much worse in the real world than what you see of us online.

We are here for discussion, not repression; talking about what interests us, not shutting each other up. If someone for whatever reason does not meet your standards, ignore them. If they violate an actual rule, report them.

Enjoy what you like and avoid what you don't.

And now, excuse me. I have to go walk my fish ...
