My Cold Steel G10 American Lawman came, wow!

I just saw a brick and mortar shop selling the 1st gen Lawman for 110 bucks, I asked why and they said well its out of production. Crazy.

I am a huge fan of the old aluminum, ultra lock AK47, that and the Rajah 2 are in my pocket most days.

I am curious where people are finding this knife for $40-$60? Wholesale is around $55 and most online stores are selling it at around $65.

How well is the AUS8 steel holding an edge compared to other common knives? I have not been able to get past the blade steel and use mine since I had such bad luck with AUS8 in a couple knives a few years ago. The steel snob in me is probably going to sell my new old stock with steel liners. I bought it to use as a beater and to hand out but it is fairly substantial to carry around for the rare occasion I need to use a knife for something a knife isn't meant to do.

I have enough users to last me a lifetime and don't really need any more unless they are perfect or use some new super steel which this knife just doesn't do for me. I guess it is time to buy a gold membership and start selling off my NIB knives as they aren't doing anyone any good sitting in a box. I guess I'm starting to get bored with knives. Sorry about the rambling tangent.

Beautiful edges you guys, I'm going to reprofile mine just a little so I can use the Sharpmaker with it. The factory bevel on mine isn't real bad, but it's just obtuse enough that my stones aren't quite hitting the edge, so gonna bring her back to just under 40 degrees.

I think my knife was sharpened and boxed up at around 4:45pm on a Friday. The bevels were pretty weird, normal on 1 side and the other side had a very slight profile. Not sure if they were trying to go for a chisel grind look or what. Works much better now.

FlatMTBr:
I can't say I have had a ton of experience with aus8-a, but CS seems to know what they are doing with this steel. I use my ak-47 a good bit on tuff stuff. sure the edge gets dinged up a bit (cutting carpet for instance put some good wear on the edge, NO chipping though) but it comes back to VERY sharp with ease. I maintain the edges on all my users on a weekly basis, some need more work than others but the maintenance is all part of the fun for me. If you are serious about letting go of the Lawman could you please keep me in mind? I am looking to try out the Triad, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

No problemo dude..... ;)

Hey Buffalohump,
you bought that AK-47 from me! Since that knife was a duplicate that I never used, I can't recall if I loctited the clip screws. But I might have because that is my standard procedure with all my EDC knives. So please don't blame Cold Steel for this, it might have been me!
Anyway, whether it was Cold Steel or me, the Loctite should be reversible kind, so you can use a small soldering iron and apply some heat to the screwheads, then you will be able to loosen them without problem.
On my AK-47, I just bent the clip outward a little bit without removing it, that worked for me! But I agree, the G10 is super grippy and abrasive to fabric.

Cold Steel knows what they are doing with AUS8 I can tell you that. :D

It holds an edge very well and it's tough steel, easy to sharpen and takes a frightening sharp edge.

I have 2 EDC Cutting videos up, AL and Recon 1.

I just remove the clip and sand the G10 smooth under the clips of my knives. Easy peasy.

Sandpaper fixes the G10 and using the knife loosens the clip slightly. I like how its tight and extra grippy though. I have a good amount of experience with AUS8 and Cold Steel does it best IMO. I have the Ak-47 and love it. Considering picking up the Lawman for a less threatening edc.
