My new Buck 110 Sport Pro

The thumbstud seems waaay out there for me. I would prefer it to be on top of the ricasso, aft of the blade grind. I notice the same thing on the Slim select; the black one has acceptable stud placement compared to the other colors.

Agreed. I'm not sure what purpose the studs serve on this knife. Other than a fad "tacticool" thing. They aren't in my way, yet. But I haven't had to sharpen yet, either.

it has to do with angles and leverage to get open easier. the early version slims had the thumbstud way closer to the scale and out of the blade path when cutting. while not real hard to open if ya have a strong grip..

but for folks with pre arthritis and such it made it a two handed opening knife.

Hey all. Just wanted to share a quick update on the 110 Sport. I'd like to provide the pros and cons, but so far I haven't found any cons. I've been carrying it every day at work and at home since I bought it. I did try the warm bath, followed by wd40 and then some Hoppes gun oil with Teflon. Opens smooth and easy, closes a lot easier. Still has a stiff lock, but I'm ok with that. Overall, great knife. I would highly recommend it👍
Cheers

Maybe I’m just clumsy but my thumb has been bitten quite a few times with my 110 sport. If you’re not paying attention when opening it with the thumb stud your thumb can come in contact with the blade while pushing it up. Same goes with my 110s with the quik stud attached.

It’s definitely a knife you have to pay attention to when opening. I’m also really tempted to buy the 112 sport.

On a side note I took the 110 sport apart today to clean it. A lot easier than I was expecting. My 110 TRX was a lot more difficult to reassemble.

I have a similar concern with the Buck 110 I carry with an aftermarket thumbstud. I prefer to have the thumbstud as close to the pivot as possible and this particular knife is still a little stiff on opening, so it can get dicey opening with one hand. I tend to be deliberate when I use it. I typically open with two hands most of the time and only use the thumbstud when I only have one hand readily available.

I liked the thumb studs on the 175 Lightning series. Scored on top of the stud. No slipping. I file them in myself now. I hate to do it on a pricey knife though.

Almost a year (and 40+ Buck knives) later, and the 110 Hunter Sport is still one of my favorites. It has been in my pocket every work day since I first got it. I've used it for every knife chore I came across (cutting rope, rubber hoses, even hard plastic) and it has performed flawlessly. The thumb studs are still tight, no wiggle or spin. The only real sign of wear is a bit of the black coating on the bolsters has come off, right along the edges, showing shiny aluminum. I don't really mind, it just adds character, to me. Overall I give it a 10/10.

I still haven't got one of those...🤔
I like most everything about them.
.....Tho thumb studs can get in the way while sharpening.

Has anyone ever taken the pocket clip off and carried it in a sheath?

I had one of the earlier take apart 112's and the frame was actually larger and it wouldn't fit in a sheath.

So I've always shied away from these as a result.
I sorta prefer sheath carry for a 110.
Maybe a nylon sheath would work....?

Thanks.

Frame seems identical in size to a standard model 110. I'll be happy to take my clip off, and compare. I only have a basic flap-over Buck sheath, and a custom horizontal slip sheath that I use for my 110 AE. I'll report back in a bit.

Confirmed: the Hunter Sport, without clip, does indeed fit nicely in a standard sheath. I tried it on two different leather sheaths. It's a bit snug in my buffalo slip sheath, I believe because of the thumb studs, but it does fit. My slip sheath is well-molded to the shape of my Auto 110, so it wasn't happy, but it did fit with no issue.

Also, glad I removed the clip, as both screws were barely tight. I added some blue loktite to avoid future issues.
Cheers!

Edit:
One other important point, the screws that hold the clip on have tapered heads, designed to fit the holes in the clip. They do not sit flush against the frame. So you're either left with holes in the bolster, or slightly raised screw heads. This would bother me.
