My grandmother gave me a straight razor she claimed belonged to her father so it could be "turn of the century". It has an off white handle -- probably plastic or celuloid or something -- not bone. Markings are:

One side: "The Postal"

Other side: "Made in Germany" & "Lewis Steiger R.S. Co., Portland, Ore., Sole Agents For U.S."

Can anyone tell me anything about this little guy?

Thanks,

OK, tried that. Now, is there a forum somewhere that deals specifically with straight razors where I might get an answer?

Goins' Encyclopedia says " Lewis and STENGER Barber Supply co. Portland Ore. (His guess of dates of operation) 1920-1940.

Thanks, redrover66! Now that I look at the engraving in the cold light of day, through the tarnish, you are exactly right. I guess my grandmother was mistaken about it's age. She claimed it was given to her father by his father (my great-great grandfather) and was older than she was (born in 1907). Well, a family heirloom regardless of it's monetary value.

Thanks again.
