My vintage Puma collection

Those are some great old Pumas. That Stag is amazing! You just don't see that quality anymore. Thank you for the pics.

I bought the Jagdnicker when i was about 18 years old (that knife was my introduction into quality knives), but the rest i gathered in the last few years from auction websites and trades with other collectors.
Very recently i got a few new Puma's so i think i also have to take a few new pics, :D

Wow... that's some impressive colletion, especially considering their condition.

When I was a kid back in the 60s, the local sporting goods store had the Puma display on the top of the glass display case that held a few handguns, and the top line salt water reels they sold.

That case was always the first thing I looked at when I went to the back of the store to look around. The knife I really wanted was "The Hunter's Pal" (I think the old model was 63971), which is very similar to your Jagdnicker. I handled in great lust many times, but could never come up with the dough.

Thanks for posting those great pics, and I hope you put up more!

The Puma 126480 Defender was designed in the early 90's by German knifemaker Richard Hehn, and built by Puma as a limited edition of only 500 pieces.

It's a pure fighter with heavy metal handle & double hollow ground 154CM blade (top not sharpened), and the point of balance is just in front of the first steel rivet.
The guard is embellished on both sides with a Puma logo medallion, and the bottom picture shows the security mechanism; a steel pin with mushroomed head that clicks directly into a hole in the handle.

Specs:

Overall length: 28,6 cm
Blade length: 15,8 cm
Blade thickness: 5,8 mm
Steel: 154CM stainless
Handle material: polished stainless steel inlayed with Grenadille (African Blackwood)
Weight: 297 grams
Sheath: Leather
Complete with wooden box

I don't know how I missed this one first time around .. Or maybe I didn't. Age will do that I'm told.

You have an outstanding collection! Puma made some wonderful knives back in the day. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us. You just don't see stag like that anymore!

Wow! Those Pumas are outstanding. They have a great quality. Congratz on these beauties!! :) Though I´m a german, I don´t own a Puma til now. The White Hunter would be my choice - need to safe some money... ;)

KInd regards
Andi

In there day some of the finest production knives available. What an awesome collection.

Wonderful collection!! A 970 Puma Game Warden was the first knife I ever purchased. I have it right here in my hand and after seeing your green and yellow boxes, I was immediately taken back to that time, as a very young lad. I can even remember how I got the dent in the back liner , otherwise I have kept it quite nice.

Thanks for posting and I'm glad you brought this thread back. I always enjoy seeing these fine knives.

I too have an emporer from that same period (late 70-1980), any idea what that stainless super keen steel is?

Thanks for the post, you brought back a lot of pleasant memories from drooling over Pumas in Berlin.

Very nice collection, wish I had the multi-blade and the gentlemans knife. Highest quality of presentation. I have one of the small sheath knives that is very worse of wear......but it was my fathers, so it looks new to me.....

Very nice collection you have. I have been fond of Puma's since the 60's but only own 5. Love looking at your pictures.

Thanks for sharing..........:)

Thank you for sharing your fantastic collection with me. I have studied the photographs closely and admired every one of your knives. Great photographs by the way. I have just started collecting Puma's as I was drawn to their classic lines and beautiful stag handles. One day I might have a Puma that would be at home in a collection such as yours - one day.

Mr. Kwakster,
What a wonderful collection of beautiful knives, congratulations. The Gentleman's folder is wonderful, would be nice to see a shot with both blades deployed. What reference do you use to date your knives?
