Need a saw... cheap and compact?

Portaband and homemade table. Its compact and works great on a variety of materials.
Blade quality and longevity varies between manufacturers.

THAT looks doable in my small workspace. Thanks for the idea. I'm currently roughing in blades with a Milwaukee mini portaband (the baby one). Better than an angle grinder but not ideal.
 
Here is a table I made last weekend. Very simple construction. 1/2 inch plywood that I had laying around for the top, 2x2 pine legs. I added a cross piece between the front legs that allows me to clamp the table to the benchtop because I wanted to make sure the table would not tilt while pushing material into the sawblade.

A footswitch is very handy with this setup. BTW, if you're buying at HF look for the footswitches near the scrollsaws. I went to two different HF's and neither crew had any idea where they were!

I am using Morse bimetal blades and so far very happy with them.
