Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!
I appreciate all of you taking the time to respond and offer your experiences, input, thoughts, reviews, comparisons, and expertise on all the knives listed and even some possibilities not listed.
After all this time trying numerous knives (Bugout, Mini Bugout, Spyderco Sage 5 LW, Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight, Griptilian, Mini Griptilian with thumb stud, Mini Griptilian with thumb hole, Civivi Elementum) it came down to three knives: Spyderco Sage 5 Lightweight, Benchmade Bugout, and Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight.
After spending a good amount of time with each I narrowed it down to the Sage 5 LW and the Para 3 LW. From the two individual knives I had: the Sage 5 LW was perfectly centered while the Para 3 LW wasn't even close, the Sage 5 LW had silky smooth action right out of the box while the Para 3 LW had to be closed using two hands because the the blade wouldn't release after pressing the compression lock (I did loosen up the pivot screw and that help a lot, but it still didn't feel as smooth as the Sage 5 LW), I liked the blade shape of the Para 3 LW better than the Sage 5 LW, liked the fact that the Para 3 LW actually had a deep pocket clip (although the Sage 5 LW is very close to deep pocket), I really couldn't tell a difference between the sharpness of the blades (both extremely sharp, much sharper than any Benchmade I tried), the Para 3 LW is more narrow and lighter which made it feel better in the pocket.
But in the end I just couldn't get over how much smoother the action was with the Sage 5 LW compared to the para 3 LW...and the way off center blade bugged me. So I decided to go with the Sage 5 LW...
...but wait a minute! On a whim I ordered the Para 3 Lightweight with the DLC blade, just because the blacked out "looked cool." It came in today and WOW!!!
The action of this individual knife is incredible...identically smooth just like the Sage 5 LW but the centering is ever so slightly off - not perfectly centered but darn close (the Sage 5 LW is perfectly centered). The blacked out look is just BEAUTIFUL!!! It looked great in all the pictures I've seen of it but they don't even come close to doing it justice!
With an action equal to the Sage 5 LW out of the box and the absolutely stunning beauty of it, I can live with the minutely off center alignment of the blade - THE SPYDERCO PARA 3 LIGHTWEIGHT BLACKED OUT VERSION IS 'THE ONE' (and I couldn't be happier)!!!
Again, I couldn't have done it without you - I appreciate all the help and incredible patience you've shown as I've finally been able to decide on my first $100+ EDC knife! You all are amazing!!!
