I found a set of Zwilling Pros for myself from another member here and I love them. Turns out it's about time for my brother to get a knife upgrade, so for his birthday I want to get him something better than what he has. He already has a few half-assed knives, and I do his serious sharpening so I just want to get him a solid knife and steel. Don't really wanna go Japanese because he has little experience with good knives in general. He also has some odd aversion to knives with rivets in the handles, but I only mention that in case there's something out there I'm not aware of because I'm not worried about that as a major concern. I've thought of Victorinox to satisfy his rivet thing, but I'm thinking more like a forged blade like a Wusthof or Zwilling, and have been looking at MAC and Messermeister too. What are your ideas for a beginner knife for someone that likes to cook, but hasn't ever had a good knife?
