need spacer for finger ring on Karahawk

I have a 1st generation spyderco karahawk in which there is no spacer in between the two finger rings, which make the inside and outside of rings very sharp and prone to bend towards each other. Spyderco fixed this problem in 2nd gen by adding a g-10 insert. Is there anyone out there who has added a insert/spacer to the original karahawk? I contacted Spyderco and they will not add insert to 1st generation Karahawk. Thanks in advance for any help,
