I just received my new 18inch Ang Khola Khukuri from Himalayan Imports. Really happy with it so far. I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what the charactors on the blade mean (see pics)? And, what language are they written in? Both sides of the blade have characters.

2nd pic - Looks like Lacchu's mark, and his initials in Devangari

3rd pic - Uncle Bill memorium, and Bighorka shop in Devangari

Others will be along to verify.

The sun mark might be lachhu. My lachhu has 8 sun rays tho but I think i've seen other works by him with marks like yours.

I agree with the Lachhu ID. Ive seen anywhere from five to seven rays. The Devanagari letters ive been told by another forumite whos wife reads script and from what I remember translates to "raya" which means "suns rays".

Thanks for all the help so far in identifying the markings, this has been very helpful.
