so far im pretty impressed by these new belt's . but this is just my Opinion . take it with a grain of salt , try a couple out for yourself then decide !!

Robert is thinking: Oh good grief. Now I have blurred visions of IG sitting in a chair, no table, underwearless, making his touted (tainted?) Hot Sauce. I can picture him dropping something or other into his......(gulp) lap, and retrieving the tidbit then tossing it into the rest of the ingrediants. Will it ever end???

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Just thought i'd jump back in this thread.....i've been grinding on a 50 grit "blaze" for the past few days, and I like it! It may just he psychosematic, but it sure does "feel" alot sharper than it should! Long term use will tell the real test, though.....

I guess by now you've used them enough to find out how they hold up? Time to spill the beans..... or :thumbdn:

Ive been grinding on a single 50 grit belt for some time now. It has under its belt 3 10+ inch blades and 4-5 smaller blades. I would say these hold up like crazy! Now, do they hold up long enough to justify the much higher prices, that I do not know. Someone who puts out a lot more knives might be able to give a better sense of money vs time. My experience is a part time maker's, so its less consistent than someone who is in front of different belts every day. I will certainly re-order these next round, but who knows how long out that will be since they seem to last like crazy! Id give em a big thumbs up from my experience, but that was more on performance than trying to weigh if that performance was worth the % price increase these have....

I have been been using these belts for the last batch of knives that I have been working on. So far I like them very well. They seem to stay sharper and grind more agressively than any I have used in the past. When it is time to reorder I will be getting some more of them.

I've been using the new Blaze belts on some steak knives I've been remodeling / refinishing. They are an outstanding belt. I would say at least the equal of the 981s from Norton - The 977F from 3M and the 610s from Klingspor.

I have two concerns. I'm of the impression that the 60 grit belts leave 36 grit scratches. Second, while they are better, I'm not sure they last 1/3 longer as claimed (compared to 981 hoggers). I've been sending a few samples out to some customers but so far no feedback.

that's what is worrying me. will the sharp grit, leave deeper scratches in the steel.

That is what worries me, will they leave deeper scratches in the blade. As to them being better that the 3-m belt, the Norton Hogger is already much better for me. Mike

Okay, another question here. Would it be better to use a 60 hogger on my 1x42, or an 80 in the cubitron ceramic? Being a newbie can be so annoying!!

What I meant to say is a 60 grit norzon compared to the 80 grit hogger. Apparently they dont make the 60 in 1x42.

Maybe I am just old fashioned or whatever, but Ive gotten into the file thing after grinding lately. I hog out a blade in 50 grit then use a huge 18" bastard mill file and can draw file the flats faster than I could ever grind the blade...

In the past I have been using the Norton Hoggers. But I am going to make a full conversion to the Blaze belts. They cut very aggresively for me. I use alot of speed and pressure when I am hogging out rough forged blades. The Blaze belts lasted about 2 1/2 to 3 times longer for me yesterday when I ground a group of blades side by side with the Hoggers. I am not putting down the hoggers as they were my belts of choice, I just think the Blaze belts are a much more economical belt for me. When I say economical I mean blades ground and the time they were ground in, as oppossed to direct belt to belt pricing.
As for the deeper scratches I did not notice this. I heat treated some of the blades I ground yesterday and did not have any problems with deep scratches causing any unwanted warps twists or cracks.
Fo me personally and my style of grinding I give them a big thumbs up!

They do hog absurdly if you lean into them. A new fresh belt didnt even pull sparks and there was just a steady stream of metal going into the bucket.
