I evolved into a knife guy. Let me explain.

I always carried a pocket knife, ever since I was a kid. Boy Scout knives, Leathermans, etc. I carried a Kershaw Blur for a while, but was really disappointed with edge retention, constantly fixing screws falling out, etc. I figured a better quality knife was in order, so I went to the local gun shop I frequented (I know guns, not knives) and he pointed me to a Benchmade. After looking at a few, I settled on a Benchmade Barrage 581 with M390 steel (my first foray into better blade steel) and was overall happy with it. It kept a sharp blade, but over time, some play developed in the blade and the finish wore off of the aluminum (not in an attractive, "patina" way.)

Then one weekend, I was at a 3 Gun match and used someone's well-worn Sebenza; it was like a fixed blade. I knew I must have one. After some research and shopping around, I ended up with a left-handed Umnumzaan made for Wilson Combat; it locks up like a bank vault and looks like a work of art. It's almost too pretty to use. Almost.

Now I need a left-handed Sebenza with Mammoth inlays. I see they offered them, at least at one point; I must have one. :-)

Welcome friend. I frequent many forums, and this is one of the best. We protect our own. See you around, and if your bank account can stand it - you will have a few more CRK’s. Be well, T

Great intro- just one use and that's all it took! I ventured around when starting out but ended up here and with an extreme case of the enlightened disease. Feels good and especially with the company we keep here. Be warned- there will be many "I must have" cravings as you read the posts and view the pics.

Welcome benlineberry, IMO, CRK has the best variety of left handed knives to offer. I've replaced most of my right handed CRK's for left handed ones. I think you'll have a hard time trying to wear that one out. There's some great pic's of CRK's here, enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the fold. I followed the same path you did. I went from Case to Benchmade to Chris Reeve. I started with a Sabenza 25; then two 21s (large and small, and next an Inkosi (small). The Inkosi has become my daily carry. It is like potato chips; you can't stop with one.

Welcome to the forums and to CRK ownership ... for me I had several high quality knives and wasn't sure what all the hype and price was for with CRKs ...

well I finally broken down and got a Small Micarta Insingo ... it surprised me how much difference there was ... so I bought a Large to match ... well many Sebenzas later ... I broke down and bought an Umnumzaan ... and I kicked myself for not buying one sooner ...

so for me my two favorite "folding" CRKs are my Umnumzaans and a Wilson Combat Large Inkosi ...

and have to throw some love for the Nyala fixed blades both drop point and Insingo blade.

So enjoy the ride!

I know I'm asking the wrong group of guys (LOL), but what do you think of the Nyala? A little research and I've seen some forum complaints about steel not hardened enough (chipping, folding) and notice a few for sale in the classifieds; was this an early issue they worked out, or one batch had issues? Is this a solid knife? For hunting, I have two Benchmade fixed blades (both S30V), but would like to replace with a Nyala.

The Nyala is a totally awesome knife... get one and you will love it... Those who are saying that the metal is too soft, blade folds, chips, etc are full of shit...

I like mine and I have chipped the blade using it as lever to help me separate my transfer case from my transmission. I also chipped it doing something else to my Jeep but I really can't remember what but if you going to use it for knife stuff it's not going to get hurt.
